OBJECTIVE: To review the current therapy for granuloma annulare and report a case of refractory generalized granuloma annulare successfully treated with excimer laser. A discussion about the characteristics of excimer laser and the mechanism of its effectiveness is presented.
DESIGN: Patient case report and literature review.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Topography-guided laser refractive surgery seeks to correct vision by altering the major refractive surface of the eye. Whereas results are not significantly different from current treatment options for primary surgery, topography-guided treatment is uniquely effective in eyes with corneal irregularity. OBJECTIVE: To describe diode laser photocoagulation results in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in our hospital.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: Retrospective cross-sectional study based on clinical histories of the premature infants treated during the period from 2004 to 2008.
RESULTS: In the treated group we found a predominance of pre-threshold retinopathy versus threshold retinopathy (84.35% vs 15.65%). The anatomic results were good in 96.5% of 147 eyes. The term Asian refers to East Asians of the Pacific Rim who share not only a common heritage and skin type but also the same set of clinical skin problems. Pigmentation of the skin is often considered the number one esthetic skin concern in Asians. Asians idealize unblemished complexion of facial skin and are less tolerant to facial dyschromia than White. The problems of ephelides (freckles), nevi of Ota, and melasma are common and difficult to treat. This article reviews laser treatment of pigmented lesions in Asians.

PURPOSE: To evaluate current practice of transscleral diode laser cyclophotocoagulation (cyclodiode) laser treatment among consultant ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom.
METHODS: A 31-question survey was emailed to all practising consultant ophthalmologists who were members of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. All non-responders were sent a postal version of the questionnaire. The femtosecond laser technique allows completely new trephination methods in penetrating keratoplasty with profiles in the graft and the host cornea. The most common so-called profiled trephinations are the top hat and mushroom profiles. Traditional gingivectomy procedures have been a challenge for pediatric dentists who confront issues of patient cooperation and discomfort. Treatment of pediatric patients must involve minimal operative and postoperative discomfort. Laser soft-tissue surgery has been shown to be well accepted by children. For the pediatric patient, the greatest advantage of the laser is the lack of local anesthesia injection and the associated pre- and postoperative discomfort. The following case report describes a gingivectomy procedure performed on a 14-year-old female.

An early determination of pulpal vitality is crucial with respect to a correct differential diagnosis of revascularisation or necrosis and its treatment. The use of sensibility tests (cold, heat, electrical pulp test) in combination with X-ray are commonly promoted. However these tests are arbitrary, based on sensations and therefore not always reliable. In such situation the registration of 'real' pulpal blood flow and hence pulp vitality will be more than an added value. The most studied and well documented method is laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) as it is non invasive, direct and objective.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty is an effective means of lowering intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma with a low risk of complications. The authors report a case of hyphema noted 3 days after selective laser trabeculoplasty in a 77-year-old woman with primary open-angle glaucoma. Her intermittent use of oral nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications and chronic topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory use may have been a contributing risk factor.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the complications of the use of diode laser in the treatment of acquired nasolacrimal obstruction.
METHODS: Forty four procedures (transcanalicular dacryocystorhinostomy with diode laser with bicanalicular silicone tube intubation and local anesthesia) where performed from February 2002 to November 2007 in 41 patients (3 bilaterally), 32 women and 9 men.
