Successful multimodal endobronchial treatment of severe tracheobronchial amyloidosis.

A previously healthy woman in her 40s presented with a 6-month history of increasing cough and breathlessness following COVID-19 infection. She experienced vocal hoarseness and recurrent respiratory infections during this time, requiring several antibiotic courses. She was treated for gastro-oesophageal reflux and trialled on inhaled corticosteroids, without improvement. Further work up included CT scan, demonstrating tracheal thickening, endobronchial narrowing and mucosal abnormalities. Bronchoscopy with biopsies demonstrated amyloidosis. She was referred to a specialist centre with further

Therapeutic effects of 10-HzPulsed wave lasers in rat depression model: A comparison between near-infrared and red wavelengths.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The application of transcranial low-level light/laser therapy (tLLLT) in the range of red to near-infrared (NIR) spectrum for psychological disorders is a new area that is attracting growing interest in recent years. The photomodulation effects of NIR and red coherent lights on the activity of cytochrome c oxidase in neuronal cells of brain have been recently introduced. This study, therefore, sought to compare the therapeutic effects of 10-Hz pulsed wave NIR (810 nm) laser with red (630 nm) laser using the same delivered energy density and Citalopram in rat chronic m

Effect of GaAIAs low-level laser therapy on the healing of human palate mucosa after connective tissue graft harvesting: randomized clinical trial.

Among the available techniques to treat gingival recession, connective tissue graft (CTG) presents more foreseeability and better results in the long term. However, this technique causes morbidity and discomfort in the palatine region due to graft removal at that site. The aim of this clinical trial was to evaluate the influence of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on the healing of the donor palatine area after CTG. Thirty-two patients presenting buccal gingival recession were selected and randomly assigned to receive LLLT irradiation (test group) or LLLT sham (control group) in the palatine are

Diode laser-assisted endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy: a comparison of three different combinations of adjunctive procedures.

Chronic dacryocystitis is a frequently encountered condition which can be corrected by dacryocystorhinostomy. Today, the diode laser is increasingly put to use in such corrective operations. This study aims to answer the questions of which adjunctive procedures and which combinations of such procedures are necessary and effective in securing more successful outcomes in diode laser dacryocystorhinostomy. This prospective randomized study included eighty patients (13 male, 67 female) who underwent dacryocystorhinostomy in our hospital during the 2 year period of January 2009-January 2011. The pa

Effect of Apraclonidine and Diclofenac on Early Changes in Intraocular Pressure After Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty.

UNLABELLED: PRéCIS:: Adjuvant diclofenac and apraclonidine eye drop given in conjunction with selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) do not significantly impact medium-term intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction compared with placebo, but apraclonidine can be used to blunt immediate postlaser pressure spikes. PURPOSE: There is limited high-grade evidence guiding the choice of eye drops given before and after SLT. The authors chose to measure IOP during the first 24 hours, at 1 week, 6 weeks, and 6 months after SLT, and compare the effect of apraclonidine before SLT and diclofenac after SLT, with

A comparative evaluation of the efficacy of diode laser as an adjunct to mechanical debridement versus conventional mechanical debridement in periodontal flap surgery: a clinical and microbiological study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Research has shown that mechanical methods of periodontal therapy alone may fail to eliminate the tissue-invasive pathogenic flora; therefore, considerable attention has been given to adjunctive antimicrobial measures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of diode laser as an adjunct to mechanical debridement in periodontal flap surgery, on the basis of clinical parameters and microbiological analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 30 patients with generalized chronic periodontitis with probing depth >5 mm after phase I therapy were included in

The role of diode laser in the treatment of ventricular dysphonia.

OBJECTIVES: The treatment of ventricular dysphonia (VD) should be based on confirming the true folds pathology. In some patients, the ability of the true folds vibration remains unclear and decision making for performing aggressive surgical interventions can be difficult. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective study of surgery by chart review. METHODS: Eight cases with suspicious compensatory type of VD were analyzed in this study. They were all symptom free until a history of endotracheal intubation for laryngeal irrelevant surgery. Their false fold adducted and constricted the supraglottic region s

Minimally Invasive Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy and Photoactivated Disinfection for the Treatment of Furcation Involvement.

Periodontitis is a biofilm-induced chronic inflammatory disease that, if left untreated, can result in alveolar bone and tooth loss. Intrabony defects and furcation involvement (FI) are particularly difficult to manage, as they often persist after step 1 and step 2 periodontal therapy. In this case, we report a relatively novel therapeutic approach to managing deep furcation involvement in the first mandibular right molar (#46). The concerned area of furcation involvement presented a localized periodontitis with a Silness-Loe plaque index of 3, positive bleeding on probing, gingival recession
