[Multiple pulmonary masses with diffuse cystic lesions].

A 50-year-old female patient, presenting with a past history of Reynaud's syndrome, xerostomia and xerophthalmia, was admitted to Fujian Provincial Hospital because of coughing for 10 days and left anterior chest pain for 1 day. Chest imaging showed multiple nodules and masses, and diffuse cystic lesions in both lungs. Based on the differential diagnosis of multiple pulmonary masses and diffuse cystic lesions respectively, autoantibodies, radionuclide dynamic imaging of the parotid, positron emission tomography-CT, CT-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy, and other examinations were

Amyloid in the Lung.

Amyloidosis is the term given to abnormal deposition of misfolded precursor proteins at single or multiple sites, leading to organ dysfunction or clinical signs and symptoms. Pulmonary manifestations are nonspecific and may be associated with several amyloid protein subtypes, commonly AL (light chain) and AA (autoimmune) amyloids. Signs or symptoms of amyloid disease may often involve more of the clinical abnormalities of other affected organs than the lungs themselves. Radiologic pulmonary findings include septal and parenchymal ground glass or nodular infiltrates, multiple nodules, cysts, an

Feline lung-digit syndrome: A differential diagnosis for shifting, waxing and waning lameness in a cat.

The clinical presentation, cytologic findings, radiographic findings, and postmortem assessment of a cat with primary pulmonary adenocarcinoma with multiple digital metastasis are described. An unusual shifting, waxing and waning pattern of lameness, suspected to be an early manifestation of digital metastasis before any gross lesions were visible, was documented. Initial cytologic finding of a lung nodule was equivocal for diagnosis of neoplasia despite being strongly suspicious. Palliative management was short-lived, with rapid progression culminating in widespread metastasis to multiple dig

PD-YOLO: a high-precision detection network for fine-grained lung cancer and multi-scale pulmonary nodules in CT images.

Timely and accurate Computed Tomography (CT) screening is crucial for the early clinical treatment of lung cancer and preventing the progression of malignant pulmonary nodules. However, owing to the large scale variations and blurred boundaries of lesions, existing deep learning models struggle to strike an optimal balance between computational costs, receptive field size, and the precise reconstruction of fine details. To address these challenges, this paper integrates three complementary components-A2C2f_DFFN, SPPF_LSKA, and DySample-into the YOLOv12n framework to construct PD-YOLO, a high-p

Comparison of electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy localization and CT-guided percutaneous localization in resection of lung nodules: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety between electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy (ENB) and computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous localization before resection of pulmonary nodules. METHODS: Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library databases were searched from January 1, 2000 to April 30, 2022, for relevant studies. Two reviewers conducted the search, selection, and extraction of data from eligible studies. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The primary outcome was the localization success rate, and the secon

ACTH-producing thymic neuroendocrine tumor initially presenting as psychosis: A case report and literature review.

A 32-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of severe psychosis and was found to have an ectopic ACTH-producing thymic neuroendocrine tumor. Laboratory data revealed an elevated serum cortisol and plasma ACTH level, hypokalemia, and metabolic alkalosis. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed an anterior mediastinal mass and multiple pulmonary nodules. As the patient was unable to communicate because of her consciousness disturbance, she was managed with artificial ventilation and deep sedation. Metyrapone and potassium supplementation were administered, and steroid psychosis grad…

Ectopic thyroid microfollicular adenoma in the lung: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Ectopic thyroid occurs due to aberrant development of the thyroid gland during its migration to the pretracheal region. Intrapulmonary ectopic thyroid is extremely rare and its benign transformation (microfollicular adenoma) has never been reported. This paper reports a case of ectopic thyroid microfollicular adenoma in the lung mimicking metastatic pelvic tumors. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 76-year old female presented to our hospital because of transient unconsciousness. Pelvic ultrasound (US) and chest computed tomography (CT) showed pelvic tumors and pulmonary nodules. DIAGNOSIS AN

Mimicry of sugar tumor and minute pulmonary meningothelial-like nodule to metastatic lung deposits in a patient with rectal adenocarcinoma.

Several reports have described different lung lesions mimicking primary or metastatic neoplasms. In this paper, we describe the different features of two uncommon and benign lung lesions mimicking metastasis from a primary large bowel adenocarcinoma. Our patient is a 75-year old female with a history of invasive rectal adenocarcinoma. One month after her surgery, she started complaining of coughing and shortness of breath. Clear cell sugar tumor and minute meningothelial-like nodules had been found incidentally and simultaneously during her chest x-ray. The diagnosis had been made based on mor

Pulmonary ossifying carcinoid - MEN in a male?

Pulmonary carcinoid tumors are considered as low-grade neoplasms, seen as centrally located endobronchial masses or as peripheral circumscribed nodules. Calcification or ossification is a known phenomenon, but presentation as large bony mass is extremely uncommon. Herein, we report a case of ossifying bronchial carcinoid along with nodular Hashimoto's thyroiditis as incidental autopsy findings in a 32-year-old patient with a prior recent excision of pituitary macroadenoma. This association suggests the possibility of multiple endocrine neoplasia in this young male.

Invasive Aspergillus Pseudomembranous and Obstructive Tracheo-bronchitis in an Immuno-competent Patient.

A 19 year female, presented with life threatening haemoptysis and cough with minimum expectoration for 3 months. Bronchoscopy showed multiple nodules in airway. The direct microscopy and culture of sputum revealed fungal elements and Aspergillus flavus respectively. Serum Galactomannan was positive. Thus diagnosis of invasive aspergillus tracheo-bronchitis made. She responded to voriconazole. Aspergillus tracheo-bronchitis is a rare form of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in immuno-competent host. Aspergillus spp in respiratory samples should not be routinely discarded as colonization.

[A Case of Multiple Pulmonary Metastases of Rectal Cancer Controlled with Pulmonary Resection and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy for Four Years].

A female in her 40s underwent surgical resection for rectal cancer, and metastases in the liver, ovaries, and peritoneum in 2 stages. Multiple pulmonary metastases appeared after the second operation, and right lung middle lobectomy and left lung S8 wedge resection were performed sequentially. Because another metastatic lesion in the right lung S7 was located deep in the parenchyma, stereotactic body radiotherapy(SBRT), instead of surgery, was selected for this lesion and a right lung S8 nodule. SBRT was also performed for a new metastatic lesion in the right lung S6. Local relapse of resected

Pulmonary Cryptococcosis in a Nurse Initially Suspected of Having Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND Pulmonary cryptococcosis can be associated with various imaging findings and can occur in immunocompetent hosts. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish pulmonary cryptococcosis from pulmonary tuberculosis based on imaging findings. CASE REPORT A 34-year-old female nurse who worked in an endoscopy examination room visited our hospital because of an abnormal lung shadow. At her workplace, a gastrointestinal endoscopy had been performed on a patient with infectious tuberculosis. The nurse was asymptomatic, and acid-fast staining and culture of her sputum were negative. Chest computed
