Malignant Transformation of Cellular Blue Nevus in a Lymph Node: A Case Report.

Involvement of lymph nodes by benign melanocytic neoplasms is a readily accepted concept in the pathology literature. However, little is known or has been discussed in the literature regarding the concept of malignant transformation of benign melanocytic tumors within lymph nodes. In this report, we describe a 49-year-old woman with a cellular blue nevus on the buttock with no evidence of high-grade atypia or malignancy on both the biopsy and re-excision. She later presented with a palpable lymph node in the left inguinal region. Biopsy of the lymph node showed involvement of the lymph node ca…

Conversion of Conjunctival Nevus to Melanoma in a Patient Taking the TYK2 Inhibitor Deucravacitinib.

PURPOSE: To describe a case of a patient with a preexisting conjunctival nevus giving rise to conjunctival melanoma as a potential adverse effect of the new selective Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) inhibitor deucravacitinib. METHODS: Single case report. RESULTS: A 50-year-old woman with a medical history of psoriasis, for which she was 6 months into treatment with deucravacitinib, presented with 3 months of progressive enlargement and darkening of a brown-pigmented lesion in the left eye. This lesion evolved in the place of a pigmented nodule in the …

Amelanotic Melanocytic Nevus of the Oral Cavity: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Amelanotic melanocytic nevi of the oral cavity are uncommon lesions that often present a diagnostic challenge for clinicians, primarily due … performed under local anesthesia. Histopathological examination revealed an amelanotic melanocytic nevus, a rare variant characterized by the absence of melanin pigment, further complicating the clinical impression. The diagnosis was confirmed through immunohistochemical staining, which demonstrated melanocytic markers consistent with a nevus. The pati …

Osteonevus of Nanta-A Rare Case Report of a Cellular Blue Nevus with Ossification.

Background and Clinical Significance: Osteonevus of Nanta is a rare histological phenomenon characterized by bone formation within a benign melanocytic nevus, most commonly in intradermal nevi of the head and neck. Although osteonevus of Nanta is rare, ossification in a cellular blue nevus is even more uncommon. To date, only one case of a cellular blue nevus with ossification has been documented. This case report adds to the limited literature and emphasizes the clinical importance of recognizing this rare phenomenon, as osteonevus of Nanta has been potentially associated with malignant melan…

Pigment Pathways Collide: A Rare Case of Retinitis Pigmentosa and Nevus of Ota.

Nevus of Ota (ocular melanosis) is a dermal melanocytosis involving the ophthalmic and maxillary regions and can present with ocular involvement as melanosis oculi. Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a hereditary retinal dystrophy characterized by progressive photoreceptor degeneration. We report the first documented rare case of a 59-year-old female patient with a history of treated breast carcinoma who presented for an eye evaluation due to vision loss. Ocular examination revealed bilateral RP and unilateral ocular melanosis (Nevus of Ota). No established syndromic or genetic links between Nevus o…

Abnormal metabolism in melanocytes participates in the activation of dendritic cell in halo nevus.

A comprehensive analysis of spatial transcriptomics was carried out to better understand the progress of halo nevus. We found that halo nevus was characterized by overactive immune responses, triggered by chemokines and dendritic cells (DCs), T cells, and macrophages. Consequently, we observed abnormal cell death, such as apoptosis and disulfidptosis in halo nevus, some were closely related to immunity. Interestingly, we identified aberrant metabolites such as uridine diphosphate glucose (UDP-G) within the halo nevus. UDP-G, accompanied by the infiltration of DCs and T cells, exhibited correla…

"THE DANGEROUS BRASSIERE" AND THE NEVUS ASSOCIATED POLYPOID MELANOMA: CONNECTION SEEMS PLAUSIBLE?

The development of cutaneous melanoma of the skin based on dysplastic nevus is not uncommon. The causes of the progression of nevi to melanomas are numerous and not well understood at present. Certain genetic and epigenetic factors have a major influence on this evolution. We describe a 46-year-old female patient with multiple dermal melanocytic nevi who developed a polypoid melanoma in one of them. After a carefully performed anamnesis, the mole that developed into melanoma was found to be localized in the dorsal area adjacent to the brassiere and underwent permanent and daily mechanical irra…

Infant with Parotid Sialoblastoma and Nevus Sebaceous, Treated with Surgery and Adjuvant Chemotherapy.

Sialoblastoma is an extremely rare embryonal tumor derived from salivary gland primordial cells. Treatment usually consists of surgery alone; however, in some cases, chemotherapy is required and is administered with good response. We present a case of a 5-week-old girl diagnosed with a parotid gland tumor and co-existing nevus sebaceous on the face. Initial tumorectomy was microscopically non-radical and histopathology revealed sialoblastoma. The patient received adjuvant chemotherapy consisting of vincristine, actinomycin, and cyclophosphamide. Due to imaging studies being inconclusive regard…

Giant Nevus Lipomatosus Cutaneous Superficialis in the Vulva: Finding the Best Treatment.

This report presents a rare case of a giant Nevus Lipomatosus Cutaneous Superficialis (NLCS) on the vulva of a 38-year-old female. The patient underwent excisional surgery and electrodesiccation for complete lesion removal. Recurrence following CO2 laser treatment was observed. The study highlights the challenges in managing large NLCS lesions in challenging locations and emphasizes the importance of combining surgical excision and electrodesiccation for successful treatment. Further research and reported cases are needed to enhance our understanding of this rare condition and guide optimal tr…

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome in a patient on anticoagulation: a management dilemma.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare condition characterised by vascular malformations mostly of the skin and gastrointestinal tract and less commonly of the central nervous system, liver, thyroid, spleen and lungs. We report a rare case of BRBNS in a patient on anticoagulation who presented with gastrointestinal bleeding and no cutaneous or other organ involvement. We discuss the difficulty in balancing bleeding and clotting risks in this patient who developed two episodes of venous thromboembolism while off anticoagulation to minimise gastrointestinal bleeding. We also highlight…

Molecular mechanism of extracutaneous tumours in patients with basal cell nevus syndrome.

Basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS) is a rare genetic disorder accompanied by a broad variety of tumours, of which basal cell carcinomas and odontogenic keratocysts are the most common. BCNS is caused by a germline or postzygotic mutation in either PTCH1 or SUFU As BCNS is a rare disease, it is difficult to establish whether less frequently occurring tumours are actually part of the syndrome. In this study, the molecular mechanism behind four extracutaneous tumours in patients with BCNS was elucidated. A leiomyoma of the testis and meningioma were confirmed to be associated with BCNS in two patie…
