PURPOSE: To determine the frequency and clinical characteristics of ophthalmologic manifestations in children aged ≤16 years with autism spectrum disorder who were evaluated at a private academic healthcare network and a public tertiary hospital.
METHODS: This retrospective descriptive study was conducted through a review of the medical records of children aged <16 years with autism spectrum disorder who were examined between 2023 and 2024. Demographic characteristics, visual function testability, refractive errors, strabismus, and prescribed treatments were analyzed. Dynamic retinoscopy was

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness, predictability, safety, and stability of LASIK for hyperopia.
METHODS: A literature search of the PubMed database was last conducted in August 2025. The search yielded 198 articles that were reviewed in abstract form, 88 of which were selected for full-text review. Twenty studies (containing a total of 25 different cohorts) met the criteria for inclusion in this assessment. The panel methodologists assigned a level of evidence rating to each study.
RESULTS: Two studies were rated level I, 6 studies were rated level II, and 12 studies were rated level I

Neuroblastoma (NBL) constitutes the most common extracranial solid tumor in children that arises from the sympathetic ganglia. Its manifestations depend on the localization of the tumor and metastases. This research aimed to assess the incidence of ophthalmological symptoms and their correlations with different prognostic factors. We collected and analyzed retrospectively the data of 776 children with a clinical diagnosis of peripheral neuroblastic tumors reported between 2004 and 2022 from 14 Polish pediatric oncology centers. Ophthalmological symptoms occurred in 17.10% of the patients, and

BACKGROUND: Although the impact of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) on cardiovascular morbidity is well documented, ocular complications remain an uncertain topic. Eye diseases represent a problem of modern society, being one of the main causes of disability and decrease of quality of life.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY: The objective of this review is to analyze the specialized literature regarding ocular manifestations in OSA patients and the ophthalmological conditions associated with this sleep disorder. Underlying pathophysiological mechanisms and the impact of OSA treatment on ocular out

BACKGROUND AND RESEARCH QUESTION: Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by a wide range of symptoms and clinical signs. The aim of the current work is to provide a comprehensive overview of the clinical and genetic features of BBS patients, with a focus on ophthalmological manifestations.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In a retrospective analysis at the University Eye Hospital Bonn, data from 18 patients with a molecular genetically confirmed diagnosis of BBS were analyzed. In addition to the medical history, clinical examination included multimodal imaging, the collecti

Holoprosencephaly (HPE) is the most frequent developmental disorder of the forebrain. In this condition, the separation of the early precursor domains is hampered. A spectrum of clinical manifestations can be observed, for example, severe forms like alobar HPE and less severe forms like lobar HPE. Ophthalmologic findings that accompany HPE also occur as a spectrum that ranges from ocular hypotelorism and synophthalmia to cyclopia and anophthalmia. In this brief analysis, we made use of a recently established zebrafish model of HPE. This model is based on experimental BMP ligand induction that

"Traumatic brain injury (TBI) frequently produces visual symptoms along the visual pathway, from the eye and optic nerve to cortical visual processing and oculomotor control. Manifestations include decreased visual acuity and visual fields, traumatic optic neuropathy (TON), oculomotor dysfunctions (saccades, vergence, tracking), photophobia/"visual snow", and higher-level visuo-perceptual problems. Recognition of these symptoms by ophthalmologists and optometrists is essential, as many deficits are treatable (vision therapy, optical aids, medical/surgical management for TON, multidisciplinary

The aim was to present the clinical characteristics of patients with eyelid involvement as an isolated ophthalmological manifestation of lupus erythematosus. Four of 5 patients had eyelid lesions due to systemic lupus erythematosus, while 1 had eyelid involvement secondary to discoid lupus erythematosus. In 3 patients, the initial manifestation was an isolated eyelid lesion, with no prior diagnosis of lupus. In all cases, the lesion was unilateral and localized to the lower eyelid. All patients experienced symptoms for at least 6 months. The lesions commonly presented as erythematous plaques w

PURPOSE: To assess associations between hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and inflammatory and infectious eye diseases.
METHODS: We created a matched cohort of adults with and without a diagnosis of HS and calculated relative risk (RR) ratios for inflammatory and infectious eye diseases using the Global TriNetX Database. We also calculated RR ratios for infectious and inflammatory eye diseases in HS patients based on the use of biologic medications.
RESULTS: Based on our cohort of 57,749 adults with HS, we found an increased risk for corneal ulcers (RR: 1.66, p = 0.001), marginal corneal ulcers

Fabry disease (FD) is a rare X-linked lysosomal storage disorder with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, including severe complications, such as end-stage renal disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and cerebrovascular disease. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT), when initiated early, has been shown to reduce the incidence of severe events and slow disease progression. In the classic form, characterized by the absence of α-galactosidase A (α-Gal A) enzyme activity, diagnosis is straightforward. However, when residual activity is present, the delayed and less obvious presentation can ma
