The results of an infrared and Raman spectroscopic study are reported for seven new metal(II) pyrimidine tetracyanonickelate complexes, M(pyr)2Ni(CN)4 [where (pyr) = pyrimidine; M = Mn, Fe, Co, Zn, Ni, Cu or Cd] and an IR spectroscopic study is presented for new cadmium pyrimidine tetracyanometalate complex, Cd(pyr)2Cd(CN)4. The spectral data suggest that the first seven compounds belong to the Hofmann-type and the last compound belongs to the Hofmann-Td-type of complexes.

The ability of relatively stable Cr(V) and Cr(IV) complexes with 2-hydroxycarboxylato ligands [2-ethyl-2-hydroxybutanoate(2-) = ehba; (1R,3R,4R,5R)-1,3,4,5-tetrahydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate(2-) = quinate = qa] to induce single-strand breaks in plasmid DNA has been studied under a wide range of reaction conditions. The Cr(V) complex, Na[CrVO(ehba)2], causes substantial DNA cleavage at pH 4.0-8.0 [[Cr(V)]0 = 0.010-0.75 mM, phosphate buffer, and 37 degrees C]. The disposition and toxicity of methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT), a potential substitute for lead in gasoline, was studied to investigate the different adverse effects in ddY mice after chronic oral administration at 0.5 g/kg in food for 12 months. Biopsy samples were taken endoscopically from the antral-mucosa of 693 patients with peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis presenting dyspepsia symptoms. The authors elaborated their own modification of the separation and labelling of autologous thrombocytes by means of 111indium-oxine which can be implemented in Czechoslovak departments of nuclear medicine with standard equipment. A total of 123 separations and labellings were made and 85 administrations to patients. The isotope 51Cr generally used in the cell mediated lympholysis (CML) assay suffers from the disadvantage of low specific activity, poor incorporation and high spontaneous release, limiting the CML assay to 4-6 h.
