The principles and procedures for multidirectional instability do not substantially differ from those for anterior instability. Correct diagnosis is difficult, but it is important for a successful treatment. Conservative treatment should be attempted before surgery. Open surgical treatment using the inferior capsular shift procedure is the gold standard. It can be carried out either anteriorly or posteriorly. We prefer a laterally-based capsular shift because it facilitates capsular plication.

Diagnosis and management of chronic dislocations of the glenohumeral joint remain challenging. These dislocations usually occur in debilitated patients with a poor bone quality and they often have a decreased rehabilitation potential. Treatment can only be successful with early recognition of the condition, careful patient selection, and implementation of appropriate surgical techniques. This article reviews current information on clinical evaluation, preoperative radiologic investigations, and treatment strategies in patients with chronic dislocations of the glenohumeral joint and associated

Ankle joint distraction is a viable alternative to ankle arthrodesis or ankle replacement. A congruent, painful, mobile, and arthritic ankle joint that is treated with this technique can achieve good to excellent results. Attention to the principles (anterior osteophyte resection, equinus contracture release, and ankle joint realignment procedures) is as important for a successful outcome as the accurate application of the hinged ankle joint distraction technique itself.

Cement reinforcement for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral fractures is efficient mean with high success in pain release and prevention of further sintering of the reinforced vertebrae; however, the technique does not allow to address the kyphotic deformity. Kyphoplasty was designed to address the kyphotic deformity and help to realign the spine. It involves the percutaneous placement of an inflatable bone tamp into a vertebral body. Restoration of VB height and kyphosis correction is achieved by inflation of the bone tamp with liquid. After deflation, a cavity is created that eases the

BACKGROUND: Winging of the scapula is caused by weakness of the thoracoscapular muscles, which allows the scapula to lift off the chest wall during shoulder movements. In facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (and occasionally in other muscular dystrophies) there is selective weakness of the thoracoscapular muscles which may spare other shoulder muscles such as the deltoid muscle. This imbalance results in significant winging and loss of shoulder function. Historically, a number of different surgical and non-surgical interventions have been used to achieve scapular stability. This review exam

This report describes a new technique for treatment of a segmental defect in long bones that uses a cylindrical titanium mesh cage, in combination with cancellous bone allograft and demineralized bone matrix putty (Grafton), stabilized with a statically locked intramedullary nail. Two clinical cases of tibia defects treated with this technique are presented. At the one-year follow-up, radiographically both cases demonstrated excellent limb alignment, stability, and bony healing. Immediate full weight-bearing was initiated in each case, and early limb functional recovery was achieved. Prelimina

The importance of careful assessment of clinical, biomedical, and radiographic factors in the indications for operative treatment are stressed in this article. The indication for surgical resection of solitary lesions versus simple stabilization are compared and contrasted. The biologic behavior of various types of tumors is emphasized.

Background: Cell therapy has become a hot topic in orthopedics, with significant research dedicated to improving physicians' understanding of its efficacy. However, little is known about patients' cell therapy knowledge. Questions/Purposes: The aims of this study were to (1) evaluate patients' perceptions of cell therapy in orthopedics, (2) determine whether patients have a preference for autologous or allogeneic cell therapy, and (3) assess patient concerns about cell therapy. Methods: Consecutive outpatients of an orthopedic clinic were surveyed from June 2019 to January 2020. All patients w
