BACKGROUND: The "Adductor canal syndrome" has been described as an unusual cause of acute arterial occlusion inside the Hunter's canal in young sportsmen. It may also produce a compressive neuropathy of the saphenous nerve. To our knowledge, femoral vein compression in the canal has never been reported.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the anatomy, to propose a physiology of this canal, and to show that the femoral vein is much more exposed than the artery to compression inside this adductor hiatus, particularly at the outlet.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The whole adductor canal was exposed in 100 limbs for

From 2008 to 2009, we operated on a total often 40-to-54-year-old patients (eight women and two men). In four cases, avalvulation of the dee … c duplex scanning. Four patients required additional procedures following aortic repair. Retrograde phlebography performed in all the patients revealed that all had grade 4 pathological reflux according to R. CT and MRI were consulted for the exact therapy planing (frequently initially …

This study investigated the possibility that pericapillary fibrin deposition, found in the calf skin of patients with venous ulceration and lipodermatosclerosis, might already be present in the dermis of the gaiter area of apparently healthy limbs before any skin changes were visible. The apparently healthy limbs of 19 consecutive patients with a healed venous ulcer on one leg and no history of ulceration or clinical evidence of lipodermatosclerosis in the opposite calf, were studied. Bipedal ascending phlebography and foot volume plethysmography were performed, and systemic fibrinolytic activ…

In a prospective, double-blind investigation of the prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients undergoing elective major abdomina … nued for 7-10 days. The frequency of DVT determined by the 125I-labelled fibrinogen uptake test and phlebography was 10.3 per cent in patients receiving H/DHE and 10.4 per cent in those receiving LMWH/DHE. DVT of the femoral vein was detected in four patients of the H/DHE group and in none of the LMWH/DHE group. Intra- and postoperative blood loss did not diff …

INTRODUCTION: Renal vein thrombosis (RVT) is a rare but potentially serious condition, particularly when extending into the inferior vena ca … trasound guidance. Two aspiration passes achieved complete thrombus removal, which was confirmed by phlebography and follow up duplex ultrasound. No malignancy was found on histology. The patient was discharged with preserved renal function and showed complete thrombus resolution at one month imaging follow up.
DISCUSSION: This case demonstrates the feasibili …

Abernethy syndrome is a rare congenital vascular anomaly. In this condition, blood from the portal system is diverted to the caval system through a portocaval shunt, entirely or partially bypassing the liver. Prevalence figures in the literature range from 1 per 30000 population up to 1 per 50000 population. Abernethy syndrome is classified into 2 types based on the absence (type 1) or presence (type 2) of an intrahepatic portal vein. Abernethy syndrome can manifest with hepatic encephalopathy, pulmonary hypertension, severe osteoporosis, gastrointestinal bleeding, cirrhosis, hepatopulmonary s

Popliteal entrapment syndrome (PES) describes a cluster of symptoms related to the compression of the neurovascular bundle in the popliteal fossa, most commonly involving the popliteal artery. In approximately 10-15% of the cases of popliteal entrapment syndrome, the popliteal vein is compressed. Symptoms of popliteal vein entrapment can mimic venous insufficiency or deep venous thrombosis, causing the diagnosis to be missed or delayed. Diagnosis of popliteal vein entrapment can be done with duplex imaging with flexion and extension maneuvers; however, venography is the gold standard for diagn
