On the basis of a case report, we discuss diagnosis and differential diagnosis of Dowling Degos disease. Of special importance seems to be differentiation from acanthosis nigricans, because the patients may be saved straining and expensive clinical examination.

The authors report a case of Erythema Cinitiensis Perstans, in a thirty-one years old white man. This dermatosis, reported in the literature also es Ashy Dermatitis and Erythema Dyschromicum Perstans, is here in Brazil exceptional. Clinically this dermatosis is characterized by the presence of gray patches in a sometimes surrounded by an erythematous active border. Pterygium, a common source of morbidity throughout the world, may appear to be an innocuous, easily excised lesion, yet it plagues the ophthalmologist by its high rate of recurrence, ranging from 20% to 30% after simple excision. Beta irradiation has been used by ophthalmic surgeons for many years.
