Uterine hemangioma (UH) is a rare benign lesion involving the myometrium and cervix. UH often presents as an endometrial polypoid mass that mimics an endometrial polyp. Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is the most common skeletal disease in postmenopausal women and has become a global public health issue. Emerging evidence demonstrated the important relationship between microRNAs and PMOP. However, miRNAs have not yet been reported in PMOP. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the differences in miRNA expression profiles in PMOP with fragility fractures to identify the key circulating miRNAs in serum exosomes and to validate these molecules as potential biomarkers. BACKGROUND: We compared vaginal microbial communities in postmenopausal black and white women.
METHODS: Shotgun sequencing of vaginal swabs from postmenopausal women self-identified as black or white was compared using MiRKAT.
RESULTS: Vaginal community dominance by Lactobacillus crispatus or Lactobacillusgasseri was more common in 44 postmenopausal black women (n = 12, 27%) than among 44 matched white women (n = 2, 5%; P = .01). No individual taxa were significantly more abundant in either group.
