An Evidence-Based Pathway from Functional Classification to Intraocular Lens Specialization: A Case Example Applying the PECO Framework.

Simultaneous vision intraocular lenses (SVIOLs) aim to extend postoperative depth of field (DOFi) and reduce spectacle dependence after cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery. To support evidence-based selection among the growing number of SVIOL models, the predict-explore-confirm-optimize (PECO) framework is proposed as a structured SVIOL evidence development framework to guide systematic evidence generation and clinical decision-making. PECO is implemented as a sequential pathway for evidence generation, in which optical bench testing is performed first (Predict), early clinical experi

Cataract Surgery-Indications, Techniques, and Intraocular Lens Selection.

BACKGROUND: Opacification of the lens of the eye (cataract) is usually due to aging. It is a painless, progressive condition that affects contrast and color perception and alters refraction, leading to visual loss that may be total. In cataract surgery, the turbid lens is replaced by an artificial lens. An estimated 600 000 to 800 000 such procedures are performed in Germany each year. METHODS: This review is based on pertinent publications retrieved by a selective search in PubMed, including meta-analyses, Cochrane reviews, and randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs). RESULTS: Cataract

Deep anterior lamellar Keratoplasty.

Keratoconus is a disease causing increased steepening of the cornea resulted in irregular astigmatism. Treatment options are Glasses, Hard contact lenses, Cross linking, Intracorneal Segments insertion, Refractive surgery (Gilda et al., 2008), or Keratoplasty. Lamellar Keratoplasty (LKP) can be a better choice to manage cases of moderate and some cases of severe Keratoconus without deep scarring and severe thinning, also in cases of corneal scarring not involving the deeper layers of the cornea. LKP is a corneal graft technique consisting of transplantation of partial-thickness donor tissue, d
