Assessment of Anti-depressant-Induced Self-Reported Adverse Drug Reactions Among Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Nepal: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Major depressive disorder (MDD) affects over 332 million people globally. Although antidepressants are effective, adverse drug reactions (ADRs) may reduce adherence and quality of life (QoL). In Nepal, where mental health and pharmacovigilance (PV) systems are developing, assessing self-reported ADRs is essential. This study evaluated the antidepressant-induced ADRs among patients visiting the psychiatry outpatients department of a tertiary care hospital in Nepal. METHODS: A 3-month, single-center, cross-sectional study was conducted at the psychiatry outpatient department of Dhul

[Discrepancies Between Clinical Nurse Preceptor's Self-Assessment and New Nurses' Perceptions of Clinical Teaching Competence and Their Predictors: A Cross-Sectional Paired Study].

BACKGROUND: The teaching competence of clinical nurse preceptors plays a critical role in the adaptation of newly employed nurses to clinica … es, and item scores. Notably, the scores given by the new nurses were significantly higher than the self-assessment scores given by the instructors. The results of multiple linear regression analysis identified clinical preceptors' professional commitment (β = .480, p < .001) and new nurses' job satisfaction (β = -.433, p < .001) as independent, significant facto …

Reducing penicillin allergy mislabelling: A one-day structured training program improves nurses' knowledge and self-reported confidence in allergy assessment and skin testing.

BACKGROUND: Penicillins are the most commonly prescribed antibiotics; however, penicillin allergy (PA) labels are highly prevalent and often inaccurate, leading to suboptimal antibiotic selection use. In Mainland China, PA mislabeling is exacerbated by inappropriate penicillin skin testing (PST) practices. Nurses play a crucial role in assessing and labeling suspected PA, but the lack of systematic, evidence-based training limits their ability to address mislabeling effectively. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a structured one-day PA training course targeting nurses on their knowledge an

Contextual insights from large language models in ambulatory assessment: Differential reactivity of affect and self-esteem to daily events in borderline personality disorder.

Ambulatory assessment (AA) research often relies on closed-ended context checklists, whereas open-ended event descriptions preserve richer idiographic context but are rarely analyzed at scale. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by marked instability, providing a clinically informative use case for testing scalable approaches to contextual dynamics in daily life. We investigated the association of event context and sentiment (i.e., emotional connotation) derived using a large language model (LLM) with self-reported momentary calmness, affective valence, and self-esteem in a

A Shelf-Life Assessment of Sterilized Surgical Instruments Stored Under Controlled Conditions: A Comparative Study of a Single vs. Double Self-Sealing Pouch.

(1) Background: postoperative surgical-site infections are a significant complication in small-animal surgical procedures, with detected rates ranging from 0.8% to 18.1%, depending on the type of surgery. The sterilization process of surgical instruments is a crucial factor in infection control, but the shelf life of surgical instruments and the best packaging method are not precisely defined due to the multiple variables that influence them. This study aimed to assess the shelf life of surgical instruments stored under controlled environmental conditions in a veterinary hospital and compare t

Assessment of bidirectional impact of stigmatization induced self-medication on COVID-19 and malaria transmissions using mathematical modeling: Nigeria as a case study.

The continual social and economic impact of infectious diseases on nations has maintained sustained attention on their control and treatment, of which self-medication has been one of the means employed by some individuals. Self-medication complicates the attempt of their control and treatment as it conflicts with some of the measures implemented by health authorities. Added to these complications is the stigmatization of individuals with some diseases in some jurisdictions. This study investigates the co-infection of COVID-19 and malaria and its related deaths and further highlights how self-m

Disentangling emotion processes in borderline personality disorder: physiological and self-reported assessment of biological vulnerability, baseline intensity, and reactivity to emotionally evocative stimuli.

This study investigated M. Linehan's (1993) theory that individuals meeting criteria for borderline personality disorder (BPD) have high biological vulnerability to emotion dysregulation, including high baseline emotional intensity and high reactivity to emotionally evocative stimuli. Twenty individuals with BPD, 20 age-matched individuals with generalized social anxiety disorder (SAD), and 20 age-matched normal controls (NCs) participated in 2 separate emotion induction conditions, a standardized condition, and a personally relevant condition. Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), skin conducta

Protocol for the NEURO-BREAC-02 Trial: Evaluation of a Self-Assessment Tool for Mild Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in Breast Cancer Survivors.

Background/Objectives: Patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy with taxanes or platin derivates often develop peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Higher-grade CIPN generally affects the patient's quality of life. Because the treatment options for CIPN are limited, early diagnosis is desirable to allow for timely modifications of the treatment. This may be facilitated with scoring tools that are ideally usable by the patients. A prospective study suggested that a recently developed self-assessment tool might be able to reveal the difference between the absence of CIPN and higher-grade CIP…

Assessment of age-related hearing loss and related everyday functional and psychosocial consequences in older adults: A systematic review of self-report instruments.

To detect age-related hearing loss (presbycusis), beyond objective audiometric measurements, self-report instruments are commonly employed. However, clear evidence regarding the methodological and measurement quality of self-report instruments for assessing hearing loss in older adults is lacking. This systematic review, for the first time, aims to identify and evaluate self-report instruments for assessing age-related hearing loss and related functional and psychological consequences in everyday life among older adults. Following PRISMA and COSMIN guidelines, we preregistered in PROSPERO (CRD
