OBJECTIVE: To understand the trend and epidemiologic characteristics of malaria prevalence so as to provide the evidence for further control of the disease in Liaoning Province.
METHODS: The data of registered cases of malaria in Liaoning Province from 2008 to 2013 were collected and analyzed with the descriptive epidemiological methods.
RESULTS: A total of 202 malaria cases were reported from 2008 to 2013. There was no epidemic outbreak, and the average annual incidence was 0.08/ 100,000. Totally 17 P. v. cases of local infection were reported, and 185 imported malaria cases were reported (

Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a rare disorder characterized by persistent and marked eosinophilia. Some HES forms have a poor prognosis, either because of end-organ damage (particularly endomyocardial fibrosis), or because of associated myeloid leukemia or malignant T-cell lymphoma. Oral mucosa ulcerations can be early clinical signs in severe forms. They are discrete, round or oval, sometimes confluent ulcers or erosions, located on non-keratinized, unattached oral mucosa. In the last 15 years a better understanding of eosinophil biology has led to a new clinical classification of HES.

Thirty-one South American sea lion pups (Otaria flavescens) found dead in Punta León, Argentina, during the summer of 2002, were examined for hookworms (Uncinaria hamiltoni). Parasite parameters were analyzed in 2 locations of the rookery, i.e., a traditional, well-structured breeding area and an expanding area with juveniles and a lax social structure. The authors studied the epidemiology of spina bifida in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, from 1976 to 1995. Thirty-four patients (16 men and 18 women) were registered in this study. Mediterranean spotted fever, caused by Rickettsia conorii, is a tick-borne infection. Serum samples for screening R. conorii antibodies of professionally exposed persons in the Antalya region, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, were analyzed. R. conorii IgG antibodies were detected in 13 of 98 (13.3%) serum samples. Mediterranean spotted fever antibodies were found to be positive in 9.4% of the men and 15.2% of the women (a total of 13 cases). Only three cases had a history of fever and rash.

Basing on the results of their studies, analysis of 894 patients with tuberculosis of the lymph nodes and nonspecific lymphadenopathy treated in 1983-1993, medical literature, the authors investigate the place of lymphadenopathies in medical practice: new data on the patients, pathogenesis and pathomorphosis of tuberculous and nonspecific lymphadenopathies, diagnostic techniques. Updated approaches to this disease led to a 17.8% decrease in the percentage of cases with unclear etiology.

Vitiligo is a dermatosis of difficult treatment and significant psychosocial impact. The objective of this study was to evaluate the response to tacrolimus 0,1% ointment for vitiligo treatment. Ten patients took part in the present study: six patients with lesions on the cephalic and cervical regions had more than 75% of repigmentation. As for extremities and trunk results varied from good to excellent in 27% of the cases. The association with other therapeutic options could possibly increase the efficacy of the treatment.
