Sharing One Biographical Detail Elicits Priming between Famous Names: Empirical and Computational Approaches.

In this paper three experiments and corresponding model simulations are reported that investigate the priming of famous name recognition in order to explore the structure of the part of the semantic system dealing with people. Consistent with empirical findings, novel computational simulations using Burton et al.'s interactive activation and competition model point to a conceptual distinction between how priming is initiated in single- and double-familiarity tasks, indicating that priming should be weaker or non-existent for the single-familiarity task. Experiment 1 demonstrates that, within a

Infection Profiles Under Venetoclax-Based Therapy in Newly Diagnosed Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Real-World Study.

Venetoclax (VEN)-based regimens improve remission in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but infectious toxicity remains a concern. We compared infection profiles under VEN-based versus conventional therapy in newly diagnosed, non-M3 AML at a single tertiary center (2015-2024; n = 358; VEN = 156; non-VEN = 202). After 1:1 propensity-score matching on nine baseline covariates (115 per group), we assessed infection rates and event density (events per 1000 person-days) by site and pathogen, time to first infection (120-day cumulative incidence), and landmark associations between early infections and pr

Online-delivered 'Teaching Recovery Techniques' for young people with PTSD symptoms who have experienced forced migration: a pilot study.

INTRODUCTION: Although there is a high need for mental health support among individuals with experience of forced migration, there are barriers to accessing in-person interventions. Online delivery offers an alternative. This study aimed to examine the feasibility and acceptability of online-delivered Teaching Recovery Techniques (TRT) for young people who had experienced forced migration and reported symptoms of PTSD. METHODS: The study used an open, single-arm trial design with a mixed-methods approach. Participants (n = 16; 62.5% male; 17-23 years) were recruited via an upper secondary sch

Prospective cohort study identifies barriers and facilitators to point-of-care ultrasound use in an academic emergency department.

BACKGROUND: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) improves patient care by expedited diagnosis and safer procedures. Despite POCUS benefits, some clinicians, including emergency physicians, do not readily use POCUS. OBJECTIVES: The study objective identified barriers and facilitators to clinical POCUS use and performed an intervention to address these barriers. METHODS: A prospective cohort study at a single academic hospital included emergency department attendings, residents and advanced practice providers (APPs). Participants were surveyed on perceived POCUS use barriers and facilitators (prim

Telehealth-Based Neurodevelopmental Assessment in Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Preterm birth remains strongly associated with long-term neurodevelopmental impairments, including cognitive, language, and motor delays. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic disrupted routine in-person developmental follow-up for extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants, necessitating alternative assessment approaches. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of telephone-based neurodevelopmental assessments within an existing neonatal follow-up program and to assess neurodevelopmental outcomes in ELBW infants during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in a middle-income c

Risk factors for development of diabetic foot ulcer disease in two large contemporary UK cohorts.

AIMS: Diabetic foot ulcer disease (DFUD) is common, life-changing and associated with a lower 5-Year survival rate than many cancers. However, the risk factors for DFUD have generally been identified in small, single-centre, clinic-based studies, many of which are cross-sectional. This study aims to assess the incidence of DFUD and its related risk factors in two large, contemporary UK cohorts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We investigated common sociodemographic and clinical factors affecting the incidence rates of DFUD in two large representative independent cohorts of people with diabetes in Engl

A compassion microintervention targeting stress reactivity among sexual minority women and transgender/nonbinary people: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: Sexual minority women (SMW) and transgender and/or nonbinary (TNB) people report more adverse health outcomes (e.g., depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress, substance use) relative to heterosexual, cisgender people, often due to the additional stress burden from experiencing stigma. Physiological and emotional stress reactivity are mechanisms through which high cumulative stress contributes to adverse health outcomes. The randomized controlled trial (RCT) described in this study protocol examines whether a single-session compassion microintervention may attenuate physiological an

Feasibility of Digital Stethoscopes in Telecardiology Visits for Interstage Monitoring in Infants with Palliated Congenital Heart Disease.

Infants with staged surgical palliation for congenital heart disease are at high-risk for interstage morbidity and mortality. Interstage telecardiology visits (TCV) have been effective in identifying clinical concerns and preventing unnecessary emergency department visits in this high-risk population. We aimed to assess the feasibility of implementing auscultation with digital stethoscopes (DSs) during TCV and the potential impact on interstage care in our Infant Single Ventricle Monitoring & Management Program. In addition to standard home-monitoring practice for TCV, caregivers received trai

Prevalence and incidence of transfusion-transmissible infections among blood donors in Malawi: A population-level study.

BACKGROUND: Voluntary non-remunerated blood donors (VNRBDs) are essential to sustain national blood supplies. Expanding testing capacity for the major transfusion-transmitted infections (TTI) is crucial to ensure safe blood products. Understanding trends in TTIs can inform prioritisation of resources. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort data analysis of routine blood donation data collected from VNRBDs by the Malawi Blood Transfusion Service from January 2015 to October 2021. Variables included age, occupation; and screening results of TTIs (HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and syphilis). We

Abnormal core functional connectivity on the pathology of MDD and antidepressant treatment: A systematic review.

RATIONALE/IMPORTANCE: Researches have highlighted communication deficits between resting-state brain networks in major depressive disorder (MDD), as reflected in abnormal functional connectivity (FC). However, it is unclear whether impaired FC is associated with MDD pathology or is simply incidental to MDD symptoms. Moreover, there is no generalized theory to analyze the impact of treatment modalities on MDD. OBJECTIVES: To address the issues, we conducted a systematic review of 49 eligible papers to provide insight into the pathological mechanisms of MDD patients by summarizing resting-state

Subjective sleep quality and characteristics across the menstrual cycle in women with and without Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Past studies have found that various psychiatric symptoms fluctuate over the menstrual cycle. Sleep disturbance is a transdiagnostic feature of psychiatric conditions and is associated with several symptoms that exhibit menstrual fluctuations. Although some evidence indicates that subjective sleep quality changes over the menstrual cycle in healthy women, no studies have investigated whether sleep fluctuates over the menstrual cycle in psychiatric populations, other than premenstrual dysphoric disorder. METHODS: The present study used a mixed between- within-groups design to compar
