Dental caries, as a common chronic disease with high global prevalence, has undergone a paradigm shift from a traditional treatment-oriented model to a management approach focused on controlling caries risk factors while implementing personalized preventive and therapeutic measures. Confronted with limited medical resources and the additional workload imposed by long-term caries management, the Integrated Dentist-Nurse Collaborative Care Model emerges as a potentially effective pathway to address these challenges. Through task-shifting and collaboration, this model leverages the pivotal role o

The Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDDs) data on evidence-based interventions is significantly underrepresented in India, which is mainly due to the lack of specialists and a significant geographic barrier to care. This systematic review is a critique of the effectiveness, accessibility and outcomes of parent-mediated interventions (PMIs) that function within the Indian healthcare environment. The protocol used in the review was registered in PROSPERO (reference: CRD420261299971) and followed PRISMA 2020 requirements. Twenty-six articles published in the past five years (2020-2025) were synthes

INTRODUCTION: Heightened rates of mental illness among children, young people and forcibly displaced adults are well-documented. Despite this, access to care in host countries is often low. Problem-management plus (PM+) is an intervention developed by the WHO that can be delivered through task-shifting by lay counsellors and has been shown to be effective in numerous studies. At the same time, it has been shown that PM+ has a limited effect on traumatic stress symptoms, a common problem among forcibly displaced individuals. In turn, to further these benefits, a novel emotional processing (EP)

BACKGROUND: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction and restricted, repetitive behaviors (RRBs). These symptoms may stem from cognitive flexibility deficits, with dysfunction in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and related neural circuits proposed as underlying mechanisms.
OBJECTIVES: This study examined whether transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) could enhance PFC activity and functional connectivity, thereby improving cognitive flexibility in a valproic acid (VPA)-induced ASD rat model.
METHODS: Pregnant Sprague-Daw

Despite the high prevalence of opioid use disorders (OUD) among people with HIV (PWH), treatment among PWH remains low. Integrating OUD care into HIV care may improve OUD outcomes; however, adoption is limited due to multilevel barriers. RESTORE is a low-threshold substance use disorder (SUD) care program integrated into an outpatient HIV-care clinic that provides training and ongoing support for SUD care adoption by HIV providers. This mixed-methods study explored providers' perspectives on barriers and facilitators to RESTORE implementation and adoption of OUD treatment in HIV care. Repeated

Global cancer incidence is projected to rise dramatically, with over 35 million new cases anticipated by 2050, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where up to 70% of cancer deaths are expected to occur. This manuscript provides an in-depth assessment of the structural, economic, and sociocultural barriers that drive cancer care disparities in LMICs, including limited access to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care services. Key challenges include shortages in oncology workforce, diagnostic infrastructure, radiotherapy access, and participation

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) are typically associated with very different clinical and neuroanatomical presentations; however, there is increasing recognition of similarities.
OBJECTIVE: To examine memory and executive functions, as well as cortical thickness, and glucose metabolism in AD and bvFTD signature brain regions.
METHODS: We compared differences in a group of biomarker-defined participants with Alzheimer's disease and a group of clinically diagnosed participants with bvFTD. These groups were also contrasted with healthy

OBJECTIVE: The mental health consequences of political violence arise within active, dynamic processes of appraisal and coping. Understanding the psychological sequela of war is an urgent task; yet, we have little on the ground exploration of the quotidian events within and the accompanying psychological responses of the totalizing experience of war. Using a transactional-based model of stress and coping, in this study, we use a novel method-retrospective diaries-to explore the shifting, unpredictable, and traumatic nature of life during a major military operation.
METHOD: Our sample consiste

Subjective cognitive complaints are a frequent patient-reported problem. Some adults with cognitive complaints present to the neuropsychology clinic without a diagnosable cognitive disorder but experience subjective daily executive dysfunction. It is well-established that trauma may impact executive function; however, the nuances of this relationship remain of interest. The present study descriptively reports associations between executive function and childhood trauma as well as lifetime trauma and current posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. Participants were 48 adults referred to

During locomotion, the human ankle-foot system dynamically alters its gearing, or leverage of the ankle joint on the ground. Shifting ankle-foot gearing regulates speed of plantarflexor (i.e., calf muscle) contraction, which influences economy of force production. Here, we tested the hypothesis that manipulating ankle-foot gearing via stiff-insoled shoes will change the force-velocity operation of plantarflexor muscles and influence whole-body energy cost differently across walking speeds. We used in vivo ultrasound imaging to analyze fascicle contraction mechanics and whole-body energy expend

OBJECTIVE: In patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), augmented visual feedback (VF) can improve functional motor performance. Conversely, they appear to rely more on visual information than healthy subjects, which is unfavorable when this information is unreliable. Cortical beta activity is thought to be associated with the need for motor adaptation. We here compared event-related EEG parameters during a whole-body postural weight-shifting task between congruent and incongruent feedback conditions.
METHODS: Twenty-four patients with PD and fifteen healthy, age- and gender-matched controls pe

Humans can navigate through challenging environments (e.g., cluttered or uneven terrains) by modifying their preferred gait pattern (e.g., step length, step width, or speed). Growing behavioral and neuroimaging evidence suggests that the ability to modify preferred step patterns requires the recruitment of cognitive resources. In children, it is argued that prolonged development of complex gait is related to the ongoing development of involved brain regions, but this has not been directly investigated yet. Here, we aimed to elucidate the relationship between structural brain properties and com

Verbal fluency performance is commonly evaluated in clinical neuropsychology, in particular for assessment of executive functioning. Fluency is usually assessed by the person's ability to produce as many words as possible from a given cue within a specific timeframe. The cues are typically phonemic, e.g. words beginning with a specific letter, or semantic, e.g. words within a given category. Important components underlying fluency performance include clustering (the production of words within subcategories) and switching (the switch between clusters). Previous studies have demonstrated good pe

The second rheumatic heart disease (RHD) forum was held on February 18, 2013, at the Sixth World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Cape Town, South Africa, to focus attention on key areas in global RHD control, management, and prevention. Building on the foundation of the first RHD forum, over 150 interested participants met to discuss critical issues on the RHD landscape. Unique to this meeting was a mixture of diverse backgrounds and disciplines, all crucially important to the conversation around RHD control and prevention. Some clear priorities have emerged for RHD act

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) in high-income countries have routine laboratory tests to monitor ART efficacy/toxicity. We review studies describing the outcomes and costs of different monitoring approaches, predominantly in low-income countries.
RECENT FINDINGS: CD4 cell counts, HIV RNA viral load and clinical events are frequently discordant; viral load suppression occurs with WHO-defined CD4 failure and, as expected, viral load failure often occurs before CD4 failure. Routine CD4 monitoring provides small but significant mortality/morbidity benefits over clinic

Diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder has long been a neglected discipline. Recent years have shown an upsurge in bipolar research. When compared to major depressive disorder, bipolar research still remains limited and more expert based than evidence based. In bipolar diagnosis the focus is shifting from classic mania to bipolar depression and hypomania. There is a search for bipolar signatures in symptoms and course of major depressive episodes. The criteria for hypomania are softened, leading to a bipolar prevalence that now equals that of major depressive disorder. Anti-epileptics and

BACKGROUND: Isocyanates are highly reactive chemicals used widely in metal structure coating applications in construction. Isocyanates are potent respiratory and skin sensitizers and a leading cause of occupational asthma. At present, there is no cure for isocyanate asthma and no biomarkers of early disease. Exposure reduction is considered the most effective preventive strategy. To date, limited data are available on isocyanate exposures and work practices in construction trades using isocyanates, including metal structure coatings.
OBJECTIVES: The primary objectives of this work were: i) to

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Language reorganization has been described in brain lesions with respect to their location and timing, but little is known with respect to their etiology. We used fMRI to investigate the effects of different types of left hemisphere lesions (GL = gliomas, TLE = temporal lobe epilepsy and CA = cavernous angioma) on the topographic intra-hemispheric language plasticity, also considering their location.
METHODS: Forty-seven right-handed patients with 3 different left hemisphere lesions (16 GL, 15 TLE and 16 CA) and 17 healthy controls underwent BOLD fMRI with a verb-gener

Decades of behavioral science research have documented functional shifts in attitudes and ideological adherence in response to various challenges, but little work to date has illuminated the neural mechanisms underlying these dynamics. This paper describes how continuous theta burst transcranial magnetic stimulation may be employed to experimentally assess the causal contribution of cortical regions to threat-related ideological shifts. In the example protocol provided here, participants are exposed to a threat prime-an explicit reminder of their own inevitable death and bodily decomposition-f

Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the dosing of medication. It is shifting practice from fixed schedules to flexible timing that better reflects the needs of individual patients. This review synthesizes recent work in which AI identifies improved windows for drug delivery. It spans multiple time horizons, ranging from minute-by-minute infusion control to regimen planning over weeks or months. These approaches integrate population pharmacokinetic modeling with machine learning and reinforcement learning. Each component serves a distinct purpose. Together, they can recommend the dose tim
