VASCULAR ALTERATIONS REVEALED WITH OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY IN PATIENTS WITH CHOROIDEREMIA.

PURPOSE: Choroideremia is a rare degenerative retinal disease that causes incurable blindness. It occurs as a result of the deficiency of the X-linked CHM gene, which encodes the Rab escort protein 1 (REP1). Gene therapy has been developed to treat CHM using adeno-associated viral vectors and is currently undergoing clinical trials. Expression of the CHM gene is ubiquitous throughout the retina, and it is therefore important to identify which retinal layers are affected in the disease process. The purpose of this study was to assess in particular the choriocapillaris using optical coherence to

Advances in Optical Coherence Tomography and Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy in Pulmonary Diseases.

Diagnosing and monitoring pulmonary diseases is highly dependent on imaging, physiological function tests and tissue sampling. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) are novel imaging techniques with near-microscopic resolution that can be easily and safely combined with conventional bronchoscopy. Disease-related pulmonary anatomical compartments can be visualized, real time, using these techniques. In obstructive lung diseases, airway wall layers and related structural remodelling can be identified and quantified. In malignant lung disease, normal and malig

Handheld swept-source optical coherence tomography with angiography in awake premature neonates.

BACKGROUND: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) can lead to retinal detachment and severe vision loss and is a common cause of childhood blindness. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a non-invasive imaging modality that can be used to detect potential abnormalities in the microvasculature in this population. The objective of this study is to assess the feasibility of a newly developed handheld swept source OCT (SS-OCT) device to successfully acquire structural vitreoretinal and retinal microvascular images in awake premature infants. METHODS: OCT and OCTA images were acquired at

Second generation optical coherence tomography: Preliminary experience in pancreatic and biliary strictures.

INTRODUCTION: Evaluation of indeterminate biliary strictures remains a diagnostic challenge. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) provides in-vivo, wide-field, cross-sectional imaging at the microstructure level. We present the first preliminary data using a second-generation OCT system using volumetric laser endomicroscopy (VLE) in biliary and pancreatic duct strictures. METHODS: 10 consecutive patients undergoing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and OCT for indeterminate biliary or pancreatic stricture evaluation were captured in a registry. Following ductal cannulation a

An evidence-based approach to the routine use of optical coherence tomography.

Optical coherence tomography is an imaging technology that has revolutionised the detection, assessment and management of ocular disease. It is now a mainstream technology in clinical practice and is performed by non-specialised personnel in some settings. This article provides a clinical perspective on the implications of that movement and describes best practice using multimodal imaging and an evidence-based approach. Practical, illustrative guides on the interpretation of optical coherence tomography are provided for three major diseases of the ocular fundus, in which optical coherence tomo
