This report compares and evaluates the treatment outcomes of regenerative endodontic treatment and apical plug as two accepted treatment protocols in a pair of necrotic immature maxillary central incisors of a 12-year old female. The patient was referred complaining of a dull pain and swelling in her upper lip area. She had a history of trauma to the anterior maxilla two years earlier. Both teeth were clinically diagnosed with pulp necrosis and periapical radiographs revealed that separate periapical radiolucent lesions surrounded the immature apices of both teeth. The left and right incisors

INTRODUCTION: Revascularization treatment is rapidly becoming an accepted treatment alternative for the management of endodontic pathology in immature permanent teeth with necrotic dental pulps. However, the success and timing of clinical resolution of symptoms, and radiographic outcomes of interest, such as continued hard tissue deposition within the root, are largely unknown.
METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, 20 teeth were treated with a standardized revascularization treatment protocol and monitored for clinical and radiographic changes for 1 year. Standardized radiographs were co

The near red-pulsed erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet laser hydrokinetic system, or Er,Cr:YSGG laser HKS, is effective in cutting dental hard tissues. In this longitudinal study, the authors studied the continuously erupting open-apex incisors of New Zealand albino rabbits and the constricted apex teeth of beagles to determine the effects of HKS-produced lesions at various energy levels and of preparations produced by a tapered fissure bur on dental pulp. No pulpal inflammatory responses could be identified either immediately or 30 days after surgery in HKS preparations that rem

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The Composipost dowel is made of stretched, aligned carbon fibres embedded in an epoxy-resin matrix. It is widely used in Europe and Canada for the restoration of endodontically treated teeth and was introduced in the United States 2 years ago as the C-Post dowel.
PURPOSE: This retrospective study evaluated treatment outcome of the Composipost system after 2 to 3 years.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 236 patients treated during a 1-year period by seven Swedish dental practitioners were included. Of those, 146 patients consented and data were collected from the dental

AIMS: To assess the rate of tooth movement, anchorage loss, root resorption, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) as a marker for bone remodeling during orthodontic space closure using two different mechanisms.
METHODS: Space closure was completed in 20 patients with extraction of all 4 premolars. Lateral cephalograms and radio-visiographs taken before (T1) and after (T2) space closure were assessed for anchorage loss and root resorption. Alkaline phosphatase levels were measured in 10 patients, which were divided into two groups of five each. Spaces

BACKGROUND: Apexification in immature teeth represents a clinical challenge due to the difficulty of achieving an effective apical seal and sufficient mechanical resistance. Bioceramic materials such as MTA Repair HP, Bio-C Repair, Biodentine, and PBS Cimmo HP have been developed to improve sealing ability and bond strength. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare, in vitro, the apical marginal adaptation by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and bond strength through the push-out test of these four calcium silicate- based cements used as an apical barrier.

This article presents the procedures that must be considered for periapical cyst repair after nonsurgical endodontic treatment. The case of a periapical cyst associated to the left maxillary lateral incisor is reported. Nonsurgical root canal therapy was performed and lesion healing was confirmed radiographically after 24 months. Differential diagnosis, endodontic infection control, apical foramen enlargement and filling of the cystic cavity with a calcium hydroxide paste were important procedures for case resolution.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the consistency and inconsistency between the periapical radiography (PR) and cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) in evaluating the length of root canal obturations (RCOs) in vivo.
STUDY DESIGN: Thirty-six maxillary and mandibular first and second molars yielding 109 obturated root canals with available PR and CBCT images were analyzed. The inclusion criterion was that the RCO extended 0-2 mm short of the radiographic apex on PR images. Teeth having root canal calcification, apical resorption, or poor quality PR/CBCT images were excluded.

Paresthesia as a result of mechanical trauma is one of the most frequent sensory disturbances of the inferior alveolar nerve. This case report describes surgical treatment for paresthesia caused by a compressive phenomenon within the mandibular canal. The cause of the compression, a broken instrument left in the patient's mouth during previous endodontic therapy, was identified during routine radiography and computed tomography. Once the foreign object was removed by surgery, the paresthesia resolved quickly. This case highlights the potential for an iatrogenic mechanical cause of paresthesia.

This case series reports the outcomes of 8 patients (ages 9-14 years) who presented with 9 immature permanent teeth with pulpal necrosis and apical periodontitis. During treatment, 5 of the teeth were found to have at least some residual vital tissue remaining in the root canal systems. After NaOCl irrigation and medication with ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, and minocycline, these teeth were sealed with mineral trioxide aggregate and restored. The other group of 4 teeth had no evidence of any residual vital pulp tissue. This second group of teeth was treated with NaOCl irrigation and medicated

Apexification is the most widely accepted procedure for the treatment of nonvital immature teeth. Single visit apexification is less time consuming, more economical and an easily acceptable technique with the aim of inducing the formation of a hard tissue barrier, thus allowing proper condensation of gutta percha in the root canal. Factors considered during this procedure are: i. Debridement of root canal minimizing the infection and filling the root canal space with resorbable calcification inducing material i.e. Ca(OH)2. ii. Minimal mechanical intervention to maintain the integrity and vascu

BACKGROUND Traumatic intrusion of permanent incisors is one of the most severe forms of dental injury and is frequently associated with complications such as pulp necrosis, root resorption, and ankylosis. Although IADT guidelines provide structured recommendations based on the stage of root development and degree of intrusion, some clinical situations remain borderline, particularly cases presenting an open apex in an otherwise nearly mature root, making classification and treatment planning challenging. CASE REPORT A 7-year-old girl presented with severe intrusive luxation (>10 mm) of the per

Evoked bleeding (EB) clinical procedure, comprising a disinfection step followed by periapical tissue laceration to induce the ingrowth of undifferentiated stem cells from the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone, is currently the only regenerative-based therapeutic approach to treating pulp tissue necrosis in undeveloped (immature) permanent teeth approved in the United States. Yet, the disinfection step using antibiotic-based pastes leads to cytotoxic, warranting a biocompatible strategy to promote root canal disinfection with no or minimal side-effects to maximize the regenerative outcome
