Fracture load and three-dimensional internal void analysis of direct composites used to restore worn molars.

This study evaluated (1) the load-bearing capacity of molars restored with direct occlusal veneers fabricated either from short-fiber-reinforced composite (SFRC) or particulate-filled composite (PFC) and the presence of internal voids within the materials, and (2) effect of water storage on the fracture load and correlation between internal voids and fracture load. Sixty human molars (n = 10/group) were prepared with flat occlusal surfaces and preserved enamel margins simulating worn teeth. Conventional molds were taken for each tooth to control the preparation depth and transparent molds to r

Preparation of Ag-Metal organic frameworks-loaded Sodium Alginate Hydrogel for the treatment of periodontitis.

Periodontitis, a common chronic inflammatory condition caused by bacteria, leads to loss of attachment, resorption of alveolar bone, and ultimately tooth loss. Therefore, reducing bacterial load and fostering alveolar bone regeneration are essential components in the treatment of periodontitis. In this study, we prepared smaller-sized Ag-Metal Organic Frameworks (Ag@MOF) and loaded with sodium alginate (Alg) hydrogel for periodontitis treatment. The results showed that Ag@MOF with a smaller particle size was prepared, approximately 5.5 nm. It successfully hindered the development of Escherichi

Novel microbial synthesis of titania nanoparticles using probiotic Bacillus coagulans and its role in enhancing the microhardness of glass ionomer restorative materials.

Dental caries is a commonly occurring non-communicable disease throughout the world that might compromise the quality of any individual's life. Glass ionomer cements (GIC) are the most acceptable restorative materials due to their ease of manipulation, minimal tooth loss and least invasive strategy; however, they lack mechanical stability that has become a point of concern. Nanoparticles (NPs) are an outstanding option for modifying and enhancing the properties of dental materials. The focus of this study was to prepare novel, biocompatible titania dioxide (TiO2) NPs as a dental-restorative ma

Biocompatibility of a restorative resin-modified glass ionomer cement applied in very deep cavities prepared in human teeth.

This study evaluated whether a restorative resin-modified glass ionomer cement, Vitremer (VM), would be biocompatible with pulp tissue when used as a liner in very deep cavities prepared in young human permanent teeth. Two dental cements in current use as liner materials, Vitrebond (VB) and Dycal (DY), were compared to VM. Class V cavities were prepared in 36 sound premolars that were scheduled for extraction, and the cavity floor was lined with the restorative cement (VM) or a liner/base control cement (VB or DY). For VM specimens, the cavity floor was pretreated with a primer (polyacrylic ac

[New development in bisphosphonate treatment. Bisphosphonate therapy and osteonecrosis of the jaws].

Bisphosphonates (BP) have clinically been used as a highly effective drug in the treatment of hypercalcemia of malignancy, multiple myeloma, skeletal events associated with metastatic breast cancer and prostate cancer, and osteoporosis. Despite these benefits, however, the emergence of BP-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ) becomes a growing and significant problem in a subset of patients receiving these drugs, especially intravenous preparations. It has also been reported in the patients receiving oral BP, although the incidence is extremely low. Most of BRONJ cases occur after dental t

Fiber-reinforced composite fixed dental prostheses: two clinical reports.

Various options are available in clinical practice for the replacement of a single missing tooth, ranging from conventional fixed and removable dental prostheses to a single implant-supported crown. There are situations in which a semipermanent fixed dental prosthesis may be desirable, particularly for patients who have completed orthodontic treatment but are too young to embark on implant therapy. Following advances in fiber-reinforcement technology, fiber-reinforced composite resin (FRC) now represents a lower-cost alternative to traditional metal-ceramic for the construction of resin-bonded
