Distal anastomosis by tubed free flap is one of the main technical difficulties encountered during hypopharyngeal reconstruction. Localised amyloidosis in the urinary tract is a rare and often benign condition, which is usually clinically mistaken for malignancy. I this case report, a 48-year-old man was referred to the hospital with left flank pain, and CT-urography showed a tumour with calcification in the distal ureter. During transurethral procedure, the tumour was resected macroscopically. Histology revealed the diagnosis of amyloidosis. Follow-up was without signs of systemic involvement or recurrence. We present a 3.5-year-old patient with tetralogy of Fallot, pulmonary atresia, and major aortopulmonary collaterals, after repeat implantation of a central shunt, in whom we successfully re-purposed previous imaging scans with a novel image fusion software to guide diagnostic heart catheterisation. The pre-registered CT scan was segmented before the procedure and subsequently manually fused with two-dimensional fluoroscopy images. The overlaid roadmap enhanced selective cannulation of all major vessels originating from the aorta, making aortography unnecessary.

Maternal mortality is the second most common cause of death among women in Ghana, and more than one in 10 maternal deaths (11%) are the result of unsafe induced abortions.1 In addition, a substantial proportion of women who survive an unsafe abortion experience complications from the procedure. This suffering is all the more tragic because it is unnecessary: Many women likely turn to unsafe providers or do not obtain adequate postabortion care when it is needed because they are unaware that abortion is legal on fairly broad grounds in Ghana.

The pneumatic tourniquet is used routinely in extremity surgery, not only to prevent unnecessary blood loss, but also to increase the safety of the operative procedure. The mechanical part of this study shows that the system can fail in either of two major ways, each causing serious problems. The tourniquet may be inadequate if the pressure delivered to the cuff is not accurately displayed on the gauge or if the pre-set pressure is not maintained for the duration of the operative procedure. In our hospital, three of seven tourniquets (43%) in daily use showed significant errors in this regard.
