Stem cell-containing allograft matrix enhances periodontal regeneration: case presentations.

Periodontal defects involving either interproximal horizontal bone loss or furcations continue to challenge the regenerative capabilities of the oral cavity. The following case presentations show the successful treatment of these challenging periodontal defects with a novel cellular allograft that contains native mesenchymal stem cells and osteoprogenitor cells.

An intraoral anastomosing technique for microvascular bone flaps in alveolar ridge reconstruction: first clinical results.

The main indication for microvascular reconstruction of the face is to achieve the best possible functional and aesthetic outcome. In several cases of reconstruction of the alveolar ridges of the mandible or maxilla, extraoral scars might have been avoided if microvascular anastomoses had been performed without using the extraoral approach. In 9 patients with severe defects of the alveolar ridge of the mandible or maxilla caused by trauma, tumour resection, atrophy or partial loss of premaxilla, reconstruction was performed using six microvascular corticocancellous femur flaps, two iliac crest

A simplified soft tissue management for peri-implant bone augmentation.

PURPOSE: This case series illustrates a simplified soft tissue management, namely, the subperiosteal peri-implant augmented layer (SPAL), to increase hard and soft tissue dimensions at the most coronal portion of an implant. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-seven implants in 16 patients presenting either a buccal bone dehiscence or a thin (< 1 mm) buccal cortical bone plate (BCBP) were consecutively treated. Briefly, a split-thickness flap (namely, the mucosal layer) was raised on the buccal aspect. Then, the periosteal layer was elevated from the bone crest. A full-thickness flap was elevated o

Bone stability around dental implants: Treatment related factors.

The bone bed around dental implants is influenced by implant and augmentation materials, as well as the insertion technique used. The primary influencing factors include the dental implant design, augmentation technique, treatment protocol, and surgical procedure. In addition to these treatment-related factors, in the literature, local and systemic factors have been found to be related to the bone stability around implants. Bone is a dynamic organ that optimises itself depending on the loading condition above it. Bone achieves this optimisation through the remodelling process. Several studies

Immediate implant placement in mandible and prosthetic rehabilitation by means of all-zirconium oxide restorations: case report of a woman with a history of periodontitis.

Owing to its single surgical intervention, immediate implant placement has the advantage of shortening treatment time, and thus positively affects patient morbidity. According to the bone resorption pattern after tooth extraction, bone loss should be anticipated if immediate implant placement is considered. The present case report aims to present a possible treatment option and to demonstrate that a partially edentulous arch may be rehabilitated esthetically by immediate implant placement and by corresponding anticipatory measures.

The segmental ridge-split procedure.

This report details surgical procedures for ridge expansion by means of splitting the crest of an edentulous ridge. Atrophic bony ridges present a unique challenge to the dental implant surgeon. In the past, onlay grafts of bone harvested from the hip, maxillary tuberosity, symphysis of the chin, or external oblique ridge have all been used with success in reconstruction of atrophic ridges. However, bone onlay grafting procedures require a secondary surgical site, which exhibits typical postoperative morbidity associated with bone harvesting performed with chisels and burs. Additionally, onlay
