The implantation of a transvenous cardioverter defibrillator (PCD 7217B) was performed in a patient with a persistent left superior vena cava. The defibrillation electrodes were positioned in the right ventricle and the superior vena cava via the right subclavian vein. A subcutaneous patch had to be implanted at the left lateral chest wall to achieve sufficient defibrillation thresholds. Three weeks later the system had to be removed because of a generator pocket infection. During the second implantation we placed one electrode in the persistent left superior vena cava perpendicular to the ele

Renovascular hypertension is caused by two distinct conditions with different causes, fibromuscular dysplasia and atheroma. Diagnosis of the former is both simpler and more rewarding, whereas atheromatous lesions of the renal artery may be secondary to essential hypertension. It is therefore important to establish existence of functional renal ischemia as well as an anatomical lesion. Universal screening of all hypertensive patients is not recommended because of the relatively low prevalence of the disease and insufficient accuracy of available screening tests. When renovascular hypertension i

Intracranial pial arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) associated with multiple aneurysms of the main feeding arteries are very rare cerebrovascular lesions. We report a unique case of pial AVFs associated with four aneurysms of the feeding anterior cerebral artery (ACA) which presented as intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). CT angiography (CTA) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) images demonstrated clearly the direct connection without nidus between the first and second segment of right ACA accompanied by four irregu

The authors describe a two-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance (MR) angiography technique to create projection venograms of the head. The technique was applied to 27 healthy volunteers and 39 patients. The superior sagittal and straight sinuses, the internal cerebral veins, and the Galen vein were visualized in all the volunteers. Other veins were seen in a high percentage of subjects. Systematic comparison of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) after intraarterial contrast medium injection and MR venography in patients showed good correlation between the two techniques. MR venogra

BACKGROUND: Basilar artery web is a rare and under-recognized vascular anomaly that may contribute to posterior circulation ischemic stroke. In limited reports, basilar artery webs have appeared as thin, membrane-like intraluminal defects at various locations along the basilar artery.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 51-year-old man presented with a 10-day history of involuntary movements in the left upper limb, along with longstanding memory decline and gait instability. He had no history of stroke or cardiovascular disease. Non-contrast computed tomography of the head showed no hemorrhage, and laborato

We present two cases of 17-year-old man and 10-year-old boy presenting with subarachnoid haemorrhage and a history of road traffic accident. One patient had dissecting aneurysm of the posterior cerebral artery (PCA), and the other patient had partially thrombosed aneurysm on CT angiography. On digital subtraction angiography of the second patient, there was formation of PCA pontomesencephalic vein pial arteriovenous fistula (PAVF). Both the patients underwent endovascular treatment: stent-assisted coiling for aneurysm and coiling with parent vessel occlusion for PAVF. There were no procedural

In three consecutive cases of giant left sided paraclinoid aneurysms we employed an endovascular retrograde suction decompression technique in combination with intra-operative angiography. A double-lumen balloon catheter was placed in the left internal carotid artery by the transfemoral route. After balloon inflation and placement of a temporary clip distal to the aneurysm blood was aspirated and the aneurysm collapsed. Thus further dissection of the aneurysm could easily be achieved and clips could be placed. Afterwards real-time digital subtraction angiography was performed. Intra-operative

Ruptured bronchial artery pseudoaneurysms with mediastinal hematoma are rare entities with a very limited number of published cases to date. The diagnosis of such cases can be difficult as the patient may present with symptoms mimicking other diseases, mainly mediastinal malignancy. A high degree of clinical suspicion and imaging techniques like contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) chest and computed tomography angiography (CTA) aids in the diagnosis. Under the lights of an interventional radiologist, an urgent endovascular approach is most commonly preferred for its nonsurgical manage

Background There are multiple tools available to visualize the retinal and choroidal vasculature of the posterior globe. However, there are currently no reliable in vivo imaging techniques that can visualize the entire retrobulbar course of the retinal and ciliary vessels. Purpose To identify and characterize the central retinal artery (CRA) using cone-beam CT (CBCT) images obtained as part of diagnostic cerebral angiography. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, patients with catheter DSA performed between October 2019 and October 2020 were included if CBCT angiography included t

We report preliminary experience with the use of magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) in the assessment of intracranial aneurysms. The aims of the study were to confirm that aneurysms could be detected and to assess the quality of the images with a view to early surgery if clinically indicated. We studied 51 patients with recent spontaneous subarachnoid haemorrhage with MRA, using a three-dimensional time-of-flight technique. The results of MRA were subsequently confirmed on intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography (IA-DSA) for anatomical correlation, and were considered satisfactory in

Renal arteriovenous shunts are rare vascular anomalies that develop due to aberrant communication between the renal arteries and veins, bypassing intervening capillaries. They can be broadly classified into arteriovenous malformations (usually congenital) and, more commonly, arteriovenous fistula (usually acquired). When symptomatic, they can lead to the development of hematuria, high-output cardiac failure, hypertension, renal impairment, or retroperitoneal hematoma. Imaging techniques, such as Doppler ultrasound, Digital subtraction angiography, computed tomography angiography, and MR angiog

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and 3D reconstruction from Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) are currently used in clinical consultations for patients diagnosed with intracranial aneurysms; however, they have limitations in helping patients understand the disease and possible treatments. This study investigates the use of a 3D-printed model of the patients' neurosurgical anatomy and vascular pathology as an educational tool in outpatient clinics.
METHODS: A 3D-printed model of a middle cerebral artery aneurysm was created for use during patient cons

BACKGROUND: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a chronic occlusive disease that restricts blood flow in the lower limbs, causing partial or complete blockages of the blood flow. While digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has traditionally been the preferred method for assessing blood flow in the lower limbs, advancements in wide beam Computed Tomography (CT), allowing successive acquisition at high frame rate, might enable hemodynamic measurements.
PURPOSE: To quantify the arterial blood flow in stenotic below-the-knee (BTK) arteries. To this end, we propose a novel method for contrast bol

It is difficult to accurately understand the angioarchitecture of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (CAVMs) before surgery using existing imaging methods. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of the stereoscopic virtual reality display system (SVRDS) to display the angioarchitecture of CAVMs by comparing its accuracy with that of the conventional computed tomography workstation (CCTW). Nineteen patients with CAVM confirmed on digital subtraction angiography (DSA) or during surgery were studied. Computed tomography angiography images in the SVRDS and CCTW were retrospectively analyzed by
