The evaluation of the association between the prevalence and patterns of computed tomography findings of cryptogenic organizing pneumonia, and neutrophil/lymphocyte and platelet/lymphocyte ratios.

This study presents new findings based on a large-scale analysis of butterfly genomic sequences. Focusing on species identification through comparative genomics, we define subspecies as populations differentiated to a lesser extent than distinct species ("species in the making"). Additionally, we propose further adjustments to the current butterfly classification. As a result, 3 subgenera, 12 species, and 4 subspecies are described as new. New subgenera are (type species in parenthesis): Hyalaus Grishin, subgen. n. (Papilio epidaus E. Doubleday, 1846) of Eurytides Hübner, [1821] (Papilionidae

Expression of immune-response genes in lepidopteran host is suppressed by venom from an endoparasitoid, Pteromalus puparum.

BACKGROUND: The relationships between parasitoids and their insect hosts have attracted attention at two levels. First, the basic biology of host-parasitoid interactions is of fundamental interest. Second, parasitoids are widely used as biological control agents in sustainable agricultural programs. Females of the gregarious endoparasitoid Pteromalus puparum (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) inject venom along with eggs into their hosts. P. puparum does not inject polydnaviruses during oviposition. For this reason, P. puparum and its pupal host, the small white butterfly Pieris rapae (Lepidoptera: P

Reliability of Transcutaneous Laryngeal Ultrasonography Performed as Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) of the Larynx: A Preliminary Prospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Transcutaneous laryngeal ultrasonography is an emerging non-invasive method for assessing vocal fold function and has shown promise as a screening tool for vocal fold palsy. Existing evidence, however, is almost exclusively based on high-end conventional ultrasonography. With the increasing adoption of point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) devices across diverse clinical settings, understanding their reliability in transcutaneous laryngeal ultrasonography (TLUSG) is essential. To date, no study has directly compared POCUS and conventional ultrasonography for vocal fold visualizatio

Phenotypic Divergence of JAG1- and NOTCH2-Associated Alagille Syndrome & Disease-Specific NOTCH2 Variant Classification Guidelines.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Alagille syndrome (ALGS) is a rare, autosomal dominant disorder with high phenotypic heterogeneity. Disease-causing variants are primarily identified in Jagged1 (JAG1), with fewer reported in NOTCH2. JAG1 variants cause disease through a mechanism of haploinsufficiency, but the mechanism for NOTCH2 variants is not completely understood, making classification of variants more challenging. Using a large, international patient cohort acquired through the Global ALagille Alliance (GALA) study, we sought to improve classification of NOTCH2 variants and study phenotypic difference

Amino Acid Substitutions in the Na+/K+-ATPase May Contribute to Salinity Tolerance in Insects.

Environmental salinity levels vary naturally across terrestrial ecosystems but can be heightened locally by coastal proximity and desertification as well as human activities such as road salt application and agriculture. Since salt is essential for many physiological processes in insects, rising environmental sodium concentrations may drive behavioral changes, where insects select environments and food sources with suitable sodium levels, or evolutionary changes in constitutive or plastic physiological mechanisms to process salt, potentially altering ecological dynamics and species interaction

Effects of Mechanical Properties on Gas-Water Flow Characteristics around Boreholes: Implementation of Damage-Based Coupling Models.

Neglecting the coal damage effect around a borehole could result in low accuracy of gas extraction seepage analysis. A fluid-solid coupling model incorporating coal stress and damage, gas diffusion, and seepage was established. Reliability of the proposed model was validated using field data. Variation characteristics of gas-water phase parameters in the borehole damage zone during gas drainage were analyzed. Meanwhile, effects of equivalent plastic strain, lateral pressure coefficient, internal friction angle, cohesion, Young's modulus, and Poisson's ratio on the damage state and spatiotempor

Sonographic machine-assisted recognition and tracking of B-lines in dogs: the SMARTDOG study.

INTRODUCTION: Cardiogenic pulmonary edema (CPE) is a serious complication of heart failure in dogs, commonly characterized by excess fluid within the lung interstitium and alveoli. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) allows for the prompt identification of pulmonary alterations through the presence of B-lines. However, interpretation remains subjective and operator dependent. Artificial intelligence (AI) may offer standardized, real-time analysis, but its application in veterinary medicine is largely unexplored. OBJECTIVE: To assess the performance of an AI-based ultrasound algorithm in detectin
