INTRODUCTION: Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease with an unpredictable clinical course. Chitotriosidase is a chitinase mainly expressed by activated macrophages. Increased chitotriosidase activity has been reported in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) of sarcoidosis patients compared to healthy controls.
