Staged Starnes Operation Preserving Patent Ductus Arteriosus for Neonates with Ebstein's Anomaly and Pulmonary Atresia.

We herein reported 2 successful neonates with Ebstein's anomaly and small pulmonary arteries undergoing Starnes operation preserving the patent ductus arteriosus. Subsequent Blalock-Taussig shunt was carried out 1 or 2 months after the first surgery. One case had already undergone a successful Fontan operation, and the other had a successful bidirectional Glenn shunt so far. This staged Starnes strategy might be a safe and simple choice for neonates with Ebstein's anomaly and small pulmonary arteries.

Ventricular volumes in Ebstein's anomaly: x-ray multislice computed tomography before and after repair.

BACKGROUND: This study was performed to measure right and left ventricular volumes in Ebstein's anomaly before and after operation. METHODS: Twenty-six consecutive patients were operated on with tricuspid valve repair and plication of the atrialized right ventricle, associated with a bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt in 15 patients. Right ventricular (RV) and left ventricular end-diastolic and end-systolic volume indexes were measured by x-ray computerized tomography before and after surgical repair. Left ventricular stroke index and ejection fraction were calculated. RESULTS: Before surgery

Radiofrequency catheter ablation of two right Mahaïm-like accessory pathways in a patient with Ebstein's anomaly.

A 17-year-old woman with Ebstein's anomaly and recurrent episodes of antidromic tachycardia with two distinct morphologies is described. The tachycardias were produced by two separate Mahaïm-like accessory pathways. These were localized by their activation potentials at the anterolateral ventricular margin of the tricuspid annulus and ablated in a single session using radiofrequency current.

An infant case of Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve with abnormal diastolic filling pattern of the left ventricle.

We report herein an infant case of Ebstein's anomaly with abnormal diastolic filling pattern of the left ventricle. We also compare the case with a comparable case without such abnormal filling pattern. The patient, who had pulmonary valve stenosis, patent ductus arteriosus and mild mitral regurgitation, underwent transventricular valvotomy at 30 days of age. Postoperative course was uneventful. Serial Doppler echocardiographic studies were performed at 2 hr, 40 days, and 52 days of age. Peak velocity and flow velocity-time integral of early diastole, and ratios of the peak velocities and velo

Recurrent ectopic junctional tachycardia in Ebstein's anomaly. Case report of a 67-year-old man.

We reported the case of a 67-year-old man with Ebstein's anomaly, the oldest patient with this disease in Japan as far as we know. His condition was often accompanied by ectopic junctional tachycardia with isorhythmic AV dissociation, which made him complain of palpitation by elevating right intra-atrial pressure. Although enhanced automaticity was the most likely mechanism of this tachycardia, it was abruptly initiated and terminated by a single premature contraction. Because this interesting character can not be explained solely by the usual ideas of automaticity, we suggest that ectopic jun

Valve replacement for Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve. Early and long-term results of eight cases.

The role of valve replacement in the treatment of Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve remains controversial. Since 1965, eight patients with Ebstein's anomaly ranging in age from seven to 22 years of age (mean 13 years) have undergone tricuspid valve replacement (TVR) in our institution. Seven were in functional class 3 or 4 (NYHA), while one was in class 2, but had an increase in cardiac size. All of these eight patients showed moderate to severe cardiomegaly (cardiothoracic ratio: 54-75 percent). The valve was placed on the tricuspid annulus in seven of the eight cases, the exception be

Congenital pulmonary valvular and infundibular stenosis complicating Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve. A case report.

Clinical, hemodynamic, angiographic, and echocardiographic as well as operative findings of a 19 years old girl are presented who had the unique combination of severe pulmonary valvular and infundibular stenosis with Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve. Pulmonary stenosis was relieved by infundibular resection and valvotomy. The atrial septal defect was closed with plication of atrialized ventricle and insertion of a porcine tricuspid prosthesis. Recatheterization 2 months postoperatively revealed disappearance of characteristic angiographic findings and slight residual gradient.

Ebstein's anomaly in association with anomalous nodoventricular conduction. Pre-operative and intra-operative electrophysiological studies.

A 13 year old girl with Ebstein's anomaly was investigated for refractory paroxysmal tachycardias and ventricular pre-excitation. Intracardiac electrophysiological studies demonstrated that ventricular pre-excitation was due to conduction in an anomalous nodo-ventricular pathway. Tachycardia occurred as a result of re-entry within the A-V node with pre-excitation during tachycardia due to conduction in the nodo-ventricular pathway. These tachycardias were controlled initially by medical therapy but because of increasing frequency of attacks, occasionally requiring D.C. conversion, further elec

Ebstein's anomaly with life-threatening arrhythmia: an unusual cardiovascular manifestation of Williams syndrome - a case report.

BACKGROUND: Williams syndrome (WS) is a rare genetic multisystem disorder that often affects the cardiovascular system. However, an association with Ebstein’s anomaly (EA) is extremely uncommon. Previously, only two such cases have been reported. Here, we present a third patient with concurrent WS and EA, manifesting with life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. CASE PRESENTATION: Our case involves an 11-year-old boy, diagnosed prenatally with EA and 3-months postnatally with WS on the basis of a 7q11.23 deletion. Over the course of follow-up since birth, life-threatening ventricular arrhythm
