INTRODUCTION: Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) is an important ocular disease which affects cattle worldwide. To advance towards IBK effective prevention and treatment strategies, it is important to define the distribution and genetic diversity of potential virulence factors present in M. bovis and M. bovoculi. The occurrence of liposarcoma in the tongue is rare with only 34 cases published so far. We report six new cases of atypical lipomatous tumor (ALT) of the tongue, and detection of mdm-2 and CDK4 expression by immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), respectively, was performed. Gap junction gene GJB2 (Cx26) mutations cause >50% of nonsyndromic hearing loss. Its recessive hetero-mutation carriers, who have no deafness, occupy ~10 to 20% of the general population. Here, we report an unexpected finding that these heterozygote carriers have hearing oversensitivity, and active cochlear amplification increased. Mouse models show that Cx26 hetero-deletion reduced endocochlear potential generation in the cochlear lateral wall and caused outer hair cell electromotor protein prestin compensatively up-regulated to increase active cochlear amplification and hearing sensitivity.

DNA amplification by PCR detects KIT exon 11 internal tandem duplications in canine mast cell tumors (MCTs).
