BACKGROUND: Ocular involvement in mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is relatively rare, with a prevalence of 25 cases per million population, equating to approx. 2,100 patients throughout Germany. Diagnosis can be difficult - especially in cases of isolated ocular involvement - and treatment can be complex and lengthy. Immunosuppressants or immunomodulatory drugs are often used. Due to the complexity of diagnosis and treatment, MMP patients are usually referred to specialized centers. The zoonotic disease anthrax, caused by the endospore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis, is very rare in Germany. In the state of Bavaria, the last case occurred in July of 2009, resulting in four dead cows. In August of 2021, the disease reemerged after heavy rains, killing one gestating cow. BACKGROUND: Endoscopic ear surgery (EES) has become firmly established internationally. In Germany this technology is controversially discussed and used very differently. Therefore, a survey was carried out on the availability, indications, contraindications, and future significance of EES.

To validate anecdotal evidence on scabies infestations, we analyzed inpatient and outpatient claims data in Germany. Scabies diagnoses increased 9-fold and treatment failure 4-fold during 2009-2018, driven mainly by persons 15-24 years of age. Prevention and control in young adults appear key because of these persons' high mobility and social connectivity.
