BACKGROUND: The role of tumor-infiltrating regulatory T cells (Treg) compromising antitumor effects of immune cells in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is largely unknown.
PURPOSE: The presence of CD25(+) FoxP3(+) Treg as well as of CD3(+) FoxP3(+) and of CD8(+) FoxP3(+) tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) was verified in OSCC and compared with non-cancerous lymphoepithelial tissue.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric mastocytosis differs from adult mastocytosis in its presentation and clinical course. However, the data regarding the immunophenotypic characterization of mast cells in children are limited. Our objective was to evaluate the immunophenotype of mast cells in pediatric mastocytosis and correlate it with the clinical course.
METHODS: Biopsy specimens of children with cutaneous mastocytosis were retrieved from the institutions of pathology and were stained for CD25, CD2, and CD30. The percentage of mast cells and the staining intensity were correlated with the clinical data.

BACKGROUND: Bone marrow (BM) histology/immunohistochemistry, KIT D816V mutation analysis and serum tryptase measurements are mandatory tools for diagnosis of systemic mastocytosis (SM).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Within the 'German Registry of Disorders on Eosinophils and Mast Cells', we identified 65 patients with SM who had two consecutive BM biopsies. Lymphoid nodules are a normal component of the mucosa of the rectum, but little is known about their function and whether they contribute to the host immune response in malignancy. BACKGROUND: Expression of myeloid or T cell lymphoid in precursor B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (pre-B cell ALL), which is referred to as aberrant expression, is quite a common phenomenon. CD66c is a myeloid marker which has aberrant expression in pre-B cell ALL, with strong correlation with non-random genetic changes (BCR/ABL rearrangement). Another leukemia associated marker (CD25) is frequently expressed in pre-B cell ALL. In early stages mycosis fungoides (MF) often runs an indolent course. Nevertheless a small but significant part of these patients develop an aggressive, life threatening course. These patients usually were immunocompromised. In most of those cases the lymphoma cells express CD25. This raised the question if those lymphomas may express a regulatory phenotype. Recently a couple of in vitro and in vivo studies analyzed this issue with different methods. This review discusses the recent developments in this highly topical area of research.

A large proportion of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) patients develop autoimmunity and allergy. AIM: To determine the association between rapid viral response and IL28B, IL28RA, IL10RB and MxA polymorphisms in the Chinese Han population.
METHODS: The study cohort consisted of 238 chronic hepatitis C patients treated with interferon (IFN)-α-2b and ribavirin. Six single nucleotide polymorphisms were genotyped using the ABI TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. Biochemical indices were measured at baseline. Serum hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA was detected at weeks 0, 4, 12 and 24 of therapy.
