The predictive value of diagnostic tests for the recognition and differentiation of allergic diseases of the immediate type has been evaluated on the basis of the results of a non-selective allergologic-pneumologic examination of the staff of an industrial bakery. Out of the 314 subjects tested, 22 (7%) had a respiratory allergy against flour (flour rhinitis and/or flour asthma), and 21 (6.7%) a preexistent atopic disease without actual symptoms of flour allergy. The epidemiologic and immunologic findings for 104 subjects with subclinical Leishmania braziliensis infection were compared with those for 29 patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) from the same area of endemicity. In a prospective study 258 adults were investigated for sensitisation against bird antigens (budgerigar, canary, pigeon) using intracutaneous test. 18 of 78 budgerigar keepers were sensitised against budgerigar feathers. 30 (38%) showed a positive skin reaction at least with one of the three extracts tested. We examined the potential for contact sensitization of miconazole nitrate and croconazole hydrochloride and the cross-reaction between them in guinea pigs by the maximization test of Magnusson and Kligman. BACKGROUND: Recently, aluminum chloride hexahydrate (ACH) 10.0% petrolatum (pet) was recommended for patch testing to detect aluminum contact allergy. Aluminum lactate (AL) may be as reliable a test substance as ACH.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the frequencies of aluminum allergy when ACH and AL were used in patch testing consecutive patients.

The study was performed in 52 aspirin - sensitive asthmatics. It was possible to establish aspirin intolerance from the history in 46 persons and after aspirin challenge in 6 persons. All patients underwent allergological and laryngological examination and 41 aspirin oral challenge. A history of intolerance in the family was reported by 3 persons. Forty-five percent of young adults who ate roast wild pig at a barbecue in Hawaii experienced an illness compatible with trichinosis. Eosinophilia was present in all of those who were ill and in none who remained well. There were no positive results in skin tests with commercial skin-test antigen. Latex agglutination and counterelectrophoresis were equally good methods for the diagnosis of trichinosis and were more sensitive than the bentonite flocculation test.
