We have examined the seroprevalence of BDV in wild Raccoons (Procyon lotor) in Hokkaido, Japan. Serum samples from raccoons were examined using ELISA and Western blot assays to detect the presence of serum antibodies that react specifically to BDV antigens. Among 549 investigated individuals, eleven (2.0%) showed a positive reaction to BDV antigens. In this study, I used ethnographic methods to examine suicidality and nonsuicidal self-harm among gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons in Japan. However, the definitions of injury types in past studies have been idiosyncratic, and it has been difficult to compare studies across national air forces and aircraft types. Between September 2000 and March 2003 healthy subjects in 10 prefectures of Japan were investigated to identify carriers of Neisseria meningitidis. Twenty-five N. meningitidis strains were isolated from 5886 throat swab specimens collected from healthy persons, such as students, elderly, and foreigners. This study explored the safety concerns associated with combination vaccines in Japan. The impact of Japan's decision in 1975 to withdraw the combined diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTP) vaccine, and then in 1993, the combined measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine and provide only the single antigen vaccines was analyzed. Interviews with both governmental and non-governmental agency officials in Japan demonstrated that withdrawal of the DTP and MMR vaccines had significant impact on the rates of immunization and disease despite the availability of monovalent vaccines.

Recent studies showed that SV40 is detected in >40% of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) in United States, suggesting SV40-contaminated poliovaccines widely used during the period 1955-1963 to be a major source of SV40 in NHL. BACKGROUND: We set out to establish the epidemiology of viral conjunctivitis over a 10-year period in Sapporo, northern Japan.
METHODS: A total of 965 patients with clinically suspected viral conjunctivitis during the 10-year period from 1985 to 1994 in Sapporo were evaluated.
