Renal oncocytoma is an unusual tumor that has been identified with increasing frequency during the last decade, and more than 150 cases have been reported in the literature, including multifocal and bilateral tumors. We report a case of oncocytoma in a horseshoe kidney. Oncocytoma and tumors in horseshoe kidneys are discussed.

In an animal experiment, excellent results were obtained using both microsurgical mucosa and all-layer, single-knot polyglactin (8/0 Vicryl) suture of the ureter. These results motivated clinical use of this microsurgical operative technique on five infants (4-9 months of age) with stenosis of the pelvis outlet. Grey scale ultrasound provides a valuable non-invasive method of investigating the kidneys. It is usually a complementary examination to intravenous urography. When the ultrasonic findings are considered along with the clinical history, the results of the urogram and the results of any other relevant investigations then an accurate diagnosis can often be made. Ultrasound is of particular value in the investigation of renal masses, the non-functioning kidney, perinephric fluid collections, patients in renal failure and in the post-operative assessment of renal transplant patients.

Twenty patients with rheumatoid arthritis developing proteinuria when being treated with penicillamine have been studied. In 5 the proteinuria was mild and resolved rapidly. The application of computed tomography to the diagnosis of kidney disease and the features of renal neoplasms, cysts, hydronephrosis, inflammatory parenchymal lesions and other pathological processes are described. The diagnostic accuracy of computed tomography is excellent when compared with ultrasound and selective renal arteriography. This new non-invasive technique can obviate the need for arteriography in a significant number of morphological diseases of the kidney and is especially useful in defining the extent of malignant tumours.
