Correct use of telemedicine in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy during and after the COVID-19 pandemic: Recommendations from the Italian association of hospital gastroenterologists and endoscopists (AIGO).

The purpose of the present document is to provide detailed information on the correct and optimal use of digital media to ensure continuity of care for gastroenterological patients in everyday clinical practice, in health emergencies and/or when the patient cannot reach the hospital for other reasons. During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine has allowed many patients with chronic diseases to access remote care worldwide, proving to be the ideal solution to overcome restrictions and carry out non-urgent routine follow-ups on chronic patients. The COVID-19 pandemic has therefore made or

Understanding digital diffusion and online decision-making in public health promotion: a sequential mixed-methods study of the violence prevention charter in Canada.

Digital environments have become important settings for public health promotion, yet dissemination alone does not explain why individuals and organizations choose to adopt and act on public health information. Understanding digital diffusion requires attention to temporal patterns of adoption, the social networks through which information and influence circulate, and the contextual conditions that shape decision-making. This sequential mixed-methods single case study examined the dissemination and voluntary adoption of the Violence Prevention Charter, a principles-based public health initiativ

Bridging the Knowledge Gap: Transforming COPD Management Through Lessons from Asthma.

INTRODUCTION: Advances in asthma immunopathology and the integration of biologic therapies have reshaped clinical practice, and in turn have impacted diagnosis, phenotyping, monitoring, and care organization. Given the persistent burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), transferring these strategies may facilitate the implementation of precision medicine in COPD. The BRIDGE project, an educational initiative involving seven pulmonologists, aimed to identify key learnings from asthma that could support the incorporation of immunological insights and biologics into the management

Telemedicine-supported assisted home hemodialysis in elderly and multimorbid patients: a real-world cohort study in a public healthcare system.

PURPOSE: The aging of the hemodialysis (HD) population and the growing burden of multimorbidity increasingly challenge the sustainability and equity of conventional in-center dialysis within publicly funded healthcare systems. Although home hemodialysis (HHD) may offer clinical and organizational advantages, its implementation remains limited among elderly and functionally dependent patients. We evaluated the real-world feasibility, retention, and system-level impact of a telemedicine-supported assisted-HHD (A-HHD) program aimed at broadening access to complex individuals. We performed a retro

The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Responding to Patient Questions About Anterolateral Thigh Flap Surgery for Diabetic Foot Ulcers.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) care represents a significant challenge in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Oftentimes, patients encounter complex articles and websites to answer questions about their surgeries, including anterolateral thigh (ALT) flaps. Artificial intelligence (AI) represents a new and simplified resource for DFU patients seeking information regarding their care. To assess ChatGPT's utility as a patient resource, we evaluated the accuracy, comprehensiveness, and safety of AI-generated responses to frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to ALT flap surgery for DFU.

Reimagining Territorial Rehabilitation: A Modern Framework for Physiotherapy Practice in Chronic Disease Management.

Background Italy is undergoing a profound transformation in the management of chronic diseases, driven by demographic aging, increasing multimorbidity, and the territorial reorganization introduced by Ministerial Decree 77/2022. Despite these developments, rehabilitation pathways remain constrained by regulations that require physician‑led access and repeated formal transitions between outpatient, community, and home‑based settings. This structure limits continuity, delays treatment initiation, and hinders the integration of physiotherapists, professionals whose role in chronic care is strongl

Toward a Smart Learning Health System: An Ontology-Based Framework.

BACKGROUND: Learning health system (LHS) frameworks have been presented in multiple forms, but there is no standardized representation that captures both their core concepts and the relationships among them. This limits their practical use by health services seeking to design, implement, and evaluate LHS capabilities in changing sociotechnical environments. This study developed the Smart Learning Health System ontology (SMARTLHS), a formal semantic framework that synthesizes concepts and relationships from published LHS frameworks. METHODS: Relevant literature was identified through a systema
