BACKGROUND: The Infectious Diseases Society of America recommends a screening dilated retinal examination by an ophthalmologist for all patients with candidemia. Conversely, the American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends against routine screening in patients with candidemia without symptoms.
METHODS: In a collaborative effort between infectious diseases and ophthalmology, we examined the incidence of ocular complications in 308 patients with candidemia and subsequently measured the rate of fundoscopic examinations, risk factors for ocular complications, management changes, and outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection is a frequent cause of neurosensory impairment. Ocular abnormalities and visual impairment have been reported in a high percentage of symptomatic infants, whereas they are considered uncommon in asymptomatic ones. The paucity of data has made difficult to reach clear recommendations on the ophthalmological follow-up that should be provided.
METHODS: 250 patients with cCMV infection (123 symptomatic) were enrolled and underwent a series of age-appropriate ophthalmologic, audiologic, and neurodevelopmental examinations from 2002 to 2022.

Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has been operating an Ophthalmologic Sentinel Surveillance System since August 2003 to monitor the epidemic of epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) and acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC), both of which are highly contagious eye diseases. From 36 weeks in 2013 to 53 weeks in 2022, the surveillance results showed a significant decrease in the average annual number of suspected cases of EKC, from 22.5 cases per 1,000 outpatients in 2018 to 4.0 in 2022. BACKGROUND: Nicolaides-Baraitser syndrome (NCBRS), first described in 1993, is a rare autosomal dominant disease caused by pathogenic variants in the SMARCA2 gene on chromosome 9p24.3. BACKGROUND: Approximately 1 million new cases of herpes zoster (HZ) occur in the United States annually, including 10%-20% with herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO). Postherpetic neuralgia, a debilitating pain syndrome occurs in 30% HZ, whereas 50% HZO develop ophthalmic complications. Diplopia from cranial nerve palsy occurs in less than 30% HZO, whereas optic neuropathy is seen in less than 1% HZO. We reviewed recent developments in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HZ as well as neurological and ophthalmological complications of relevance to the neuro-ophthalmologist.

PURPOSE: We aimed to present the ophthalmic manifestations of neuro-metabolic disorders.
METHODS: Patients who were diagnosed with neuro-metabolic disorders in the Neurology Department of Mofid Pediatric Hospital in Tehran, Iran, between 2004 and 2014 were included in this study.
