INTRODUCTION: Fetus-in-fetu is an extremely rare condition in which a malformed fetus is found in the body of its twin. To our knowledge, fewer than 100 cases have been reported. Wide variations of presentation have been described, although its embryo-pathogenesis and differentiation from a teratoma have not been well established.

We describe a case of unilateral persistent sciatic artery (PSA), a rare vascular anomaly, in a 43-year-old woman with severe multiple trauma. A small amount of diluted embolization particles went into this vessel during emergent endovascular therapy under fluoroscopic monitoring. The procedure was immediately stopped when the true nature of the anatomic variant was recognized. Fortunately, an ischemic event of the lower leg did not occur. The imaging findings of computed tomography and digital subtraction angiography are presented and the relevant literature is reviewed.

We describe a novel application of percutaneous renal surgery for the management of an unusual and challenging urologic problem. Two patients with symptomatic, metastatic adenocarcinoma in the renal pelvis were treated with percutaneous resection. The lesion was in a solitary kidney in 1 patient, and was bilateral in the second. Percutaneous resection resulted in complete relief of symptoms and obstruction. An 85-year-old male was admitted to our hospital with the chief complaint of a left hydronephrosis. Computed tomography (CT) revealed left hydronephrosis and a left ureteral tumor. We performed left nephroureterectomy. Microscopically, the neoplasm was composed of a mixture of transitional cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. To our knowledge, this case is the 14th report of mixed carcinoma of the upper urinary tract.

An 80-year-old woman presented with severe low back pain of gradual onset. Her walking ability was affected. Physical examination was essentially negative. Bone scintiscans showed a butterfly-shaped area of increased sacral uptake as well as focal pubic uptake. The diagnosis of sacral and parasymphyseal insufficiency fractures was confirmed by CT. The patient recovered well with conservative management. The clinical and imaging features, and management of insufficiency fractures of the pelvis are discussed.

Magnetic resonance imaging can be used in the trauma setting to detect fractures and associated soft tissue injuries of the musculoskeletal system. The gross and microscopical features of a squamous cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis in an 18-year-old dog are described. This is a rare tumour originating from transitional cells of the pelvis. The tumour, which invaded the renal parenchyma and capsule and the small intestinal wall, metastasized to the lungs. Tumour cells expressed cytokeratin 8 and were arranged in a pattern similar to that of a squamous cell carcinoma found elsewhere, with prickle cells and horny pearls.
