It presents a review of the literature which discusses the purpose, function and setting up of journal clubs. It outlines how topics were selected, the appraisal tool used to review articles and how findings from the reviews were disseminated to practice areas. In the nationwide study of epikeratophakia, 97 surgeons performed a total of 335 procedures in 314 eyes for the correction of aphakia in children under the age of 8 years 1 month. Fifteen children underwent bilateral surgery. Thirty-six tissue lenses were removed and 21 of these eyes underwent a second epikeratophakia procedure. Serum prolactin levels and milk yield were studied in 27 puerperae with excessive milk production (polygalactia) and compared with 30 normally lactating puerperae. In order to normalize polygalactia, 14 of these women were treated with 2.5 mg bromocriptine per day for 3 days starting on post-partum day 5, 13 women received placebo. Milk flow in polygalactic women started significantly earlier than in puerperae with normal milk yield and developed mean milk volumes of 816 g per day on post-partum day 4.
