Construction and Evaluation of Robust Interpretation Models for Breast Cancer Metastasis Prediction.

Interpretability of machine learning (ML) models represents the extent to which a model's decision-making process can be understood by model developers and/or end users. Transcriptomics-based cancer prognosis models, for example, while achieving good accuracy, are usually hard to interpret, due to the high-dimensional feature space and the complexity of models. As interpretability is critical for the transparency and fairness of ML models, several algorithms have been proposed to improve the interpretability of arbitrary classifiers. However, evaluation of these algorithms often requires subst

A taxonomy for detecting and preventing temporal data leakage in machine learning-based build prediction: A dual-platform empirical validation.

Modern software development relies on automated build systems that compile and test code whenever developers make changes. Predicting whether these builds will succeed or fail before execution could save computational resources and developer time. However, many machine learning models for build prediction suffer from temporal data leakage, a methodological flaw where the model inadvertently uses information that would only be available after the build completes, producing artificially inflated accuracy that fails in real-world deployment. This study develops a three-type taxonomy to systematic

A mathematical and computational framework to predict the time to and recovery from osteoporosis via serial DEXA scans: a proof-of-concept model for digital decision support.

BACKGROUND: Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) is the diagnostic standard for osteoporosis, yet its serial data remains underutilised in predictive analytics. To our knowledge, no published model provides explicit age-based predictions of osteoporosis onset or recovery using serial DEXA T-score trajectories. This proof-of-concept study describes a deterministic mathematical framework for predicting time to osteoporosis (TTO) and time to exit osteoporosis (TEO), defined as the age at which a patient's T-score trajectory reaches or exits the threshold of - 2.5. METHODS: We developed two de

Diagnostic Performance of Prostate Cancer Disease-Specific Phenotypes Identified Using Real-World Databases: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Research using real-world databases (RWD) often requires the development of computable phenotypes based on clinical reasoning-based algorithms or prediction models with validation through a reference standard such as chart review. While there are studies reporting different phenotypes for key prostate cancer (PC) disease or outcomes, these have not been summarized systematically. OBJECTIVES: To conduct a systematic review (SR) to summarize validation statistics on PC-specific phenotypes, including metastasis, biochemical recurrence (BCR), castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC

An XGBoost-based predictive framework for diabetes mellitus multi-classification.

Diabetes mellitus is a persistent metabolic condition that requires accurate and early diagnosis to prevent severe complications. This paper proposes an Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost)-based predictive framework for multi-classification of diabetes mellitus into non-diabetic, pre-diabetic, and diabetic classes. After standardization and exclusion of non-clinical identifiers, Duplicate clinical records were removed from the original dataset, leaving 826 unique records. Comprehensive preprocessing pipeline used a stratified 70:30 train-test split and five-fold cross-validation; scaling and r

Achieving Real-Time Prediction of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Onset by Convolutional Neural Network and Sliding Window on R-R Interval Sequences.

Early diagnosis of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) could prompt patients to receive timely interventions in clinical practice. Various PAF onset prediction algorithms might benefit from accurate heart rate variability (HRV) analysis and machine learning classification but are challenged by real-time monitoring scenarios. The aim of this study is to present an end-to-end deep learning-based PAFNet model that integrates a sliding window technique on raw R-R intervals of electrocardiogram (ECG) segments to achieve a real-time prediction of PAF onset. This integration enables the deep convolu…

A Multitask Learning Approach to Personalized Blood Glucose Prediction.

Blood glucose prediction algorithms are key tools in the development of decision support systems and closed-loop insulin delivery systems for blood glucose control in diabetes. Deep learning models have provided leading results among machine learning algorithms to date in glucose prediction. However these models typically require large amounts of data to obtain best personalised glucose prediction results. Multitask learning facilitates an approach for leveraging data from multiple subjects while still learning accurate personalised models. In this work we present results comparing the effecti…

Anxiety onset in adolescents: a machine-learning prediction.

Recent longitudinal studies in youth have reported MRI correlates of prospective anxiety symptoms during adolescence, a vulnerable period for the onset of anxiety disorders. However, their predictive value has not been established. Individual prediction through machine-learning algorithms might help bridge the gap to clinical relevance. A voting classifier with Random Forest, Support Vector Machine and Logistic Regression algorithms was used to evaluate the predictive pertinence of gray matter volumes of interest and psychometric scores in the detection of prospective clinical anxiety. First-trimester screening for pre-eclampsia and small for gestational age: A comparison of the gaussian and Fetal Medicine Foundation algorithms.

OBJECTIVE: Pre-eclampsia (PE) and small for gestational age (SGA) can be predicted from the first trimester. The most widely used algorithm worldwide is the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) algorithm. The recently described Gaussian algorithm has reported excellent results although it is unlikely to be externally validated. Therefore, as an alternative approach, we compared the predictive accuracy for PE and SGA of the Gaussian and FMF algorithms. METHODS: Secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study was conducted at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (Barcelona) with 2641 singleton pregnan

A Novel Integration of Face-Recognition Algorithms with a Soft Voting Scheme for Efficiently Tracking Missing Person in Challenging Large-Gathering Scenarios.

The probability of losing vulnerable companions, such as children or older ones, in large gatherings is high, and their tracking is challenging. We proposed a novel integration of face-recognition algorithms with a soft voting scheme, which was applied, on low-resolution cropped images of detected faces, in order to locate missing persons in a challenging large-crowd gathering. We considered the large-crowd gathering scenarios at Al Nabvi mosque Madinah. It is a highly uncontrolled environment with a low-resolution-images data set gathered from moving cameras. The proposed model first performs

An efficient computer vision-based approach for acute lymphoblastic leukemia prediction.

Leukemia (blood cancer) diseases arise when the number of White blood cells (WBCs) is imbalanced in the human body. When the bone marrow produces many immature WBCs that kill healthy cells, acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) impacts people of all ages. Thus, timely predicting this disease can increase the chance of survival, and the patient can get his therapy early. Manual prediction is very expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, automated prediction techniques are essential. In this research, we propose an ensemble automated prediction approach that uses four machine learning algorithms K-Ne

Inferring tumor purity using multi-omics data based on a uniform machine learning framework MoTP.

Existing algorithms for assessing tumor purity are limited to a single omics data, such as gene expression, somatic copy number variations, … and feature missing. Benchmark analysis showed that MoTP outperformed most established tumor purity prediction algorithms, and that it required less running time and computational resource to fulfill the predictive task. Thus, MoTP would be an attractive option for computational tumor purity inference.

Artificial Intelligence Algorithm-Based Economic Denial of Sustainability Attack Detection Systems: Cloud Computing Environments.

Cloud computing is currently the most cost-effective means of providing commercial and consumer IT services online. However, it is prone to new flaws. An economic denial of sustainability attack (EDoS) specifically leverages the pay-per-use paradigm in building up resource demands over time, culminating in unanticipated usage charges to the cloud customer. We present an effective approach to mitigating EDoS attacks in cloud computing. To mitigate such distributed attacks, methods for detecting them on different cloud computing smart grids have been suggested. These include hard-threshold, mach

Gallstone disease classification using SLOA-optimized CatBoost classifier with explainable AI.

Gallstones are small stones that form in the gallbladder. Around 80% of individuals with gallstones do not present any symptoms. Despite the high accuracy of image-based machine learning (ML) models in the detection of gallstones, less research has been carried out regarding tabular data. This paper has discussed a publicly available tabular dataset in order to study some predictive models to determine the presence of gallstones. We have employed the Catboost (CB) classifier model and the Sea Lion Optimization Algorithm (SLOA) in our study. In this project, the primary methods that are explore
