Prenatal Maternal Alcohol Exposure During the First Trimester of Pregnancy in Relation to Early Learning Ability, Behavioral Problems, and Autistic Traits in Preschool Children With or Without Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Prenatal alcohol exposure has been linked to adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. However, its effects on developmental outcomes in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) remain unclear. We examined associations between prenatal alcohol exposure during the first trimester (PAE-FT) and early learning ability, behavioral problems, and severity of autistic traits in preschool-aged children in a large multi-site case-control study, the Study to Explore Early Development. Children were classified as ASD (n = 1237) or population comparison without ASD (POP, n = 1334) after an in-person assessm

Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes Based on Changes in Glycosylated Hemoglobin Levels During First and Second Trimesters of Pregnancy in Women with Pregestational Diabetes: Multicenter, Retrospective Cohort Study in South Korea.

This study compared glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy and assessed maternal and neonatal outcomes according to HbA1c variations among women with pregestational diabetes. This retrospective, multicenter Korean study involved mothers with diabetes who had given birth in 17 hospitals. A total of 292 women were divided into three groups based on HbA1c levels during the first and second trimesters: women with HbA1c levels maintained at <6.5% (well-controlled [WC] group); women with HbA1c ≥ 6.5% (poorly-controlled [PC] group); and women with HbA1c

Could a first-trimester blood phosphatidylethanol concentration ⩾4 nM be useful to identify women with moderate-to-heavy prenatal alcohol exposure who are at high risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes?

It is accepted that blood phosphatidylethanol (PEth) concentrations are reliable biomarkers of ethanol (alcohol) exposure. We therefore conducted a preliminary study to test the hypothesis that elevated blood PEth concentrations can help to identifying women with prenatal alcohol exposure who are at higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. The study included 35 first-trimester pregnant women who self-reported alcohol ingestion and had PEth blood concentration ⩾4 nM at recruitment. As a control group, 233 first-trimester pregnant women who self-reported as being either abstainers or light alc

Surgical uterus-preserving therapy after uterine rupture and haemorrhage due to placenta percreta in the first trimester following embolisation of the uterine arteries and B-Lynch suture in a previous pregnancy.

A woman in her early 30s in the 11 2/7 week of pregnancy was admitted with severe abdominal pain and emesis. One year prior, the patient had undergone hysteroscopic adhesiolysis to treat Asherman syndrome resulting from a prior pregnancy. Examination of the patient revealed a haemoperitoneum and an intact intrauterine pregnancy. Laparoscopic adhesiolysis and haemostasis was performed and the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit. Subsequent examination due to persistent abdominal pain revealed an occult iatrogenic perforation of the uterus and placenta percreta with spontaneous ut

Combination of first trimester serum afamin levels and three-dimensional placental bed vascularization as a possible screening method to detect women at-risk for adverse pregnancy complications like pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus in low-risk pregnancies.

OBJECTIVE: Aim of the study was to assess the correlation of first trimester serum afamin levels with three-dimensional placental bed vascularization in pregnant women and its prognostic value for predicting pre-eclampsia and future fetal and maternal complications during pregnancy. METHODS: In this nested case-control study all pregnant women registered for delivery during a period of 3 years were routinely screened in the first trimester. Serum afamin levels were assessed in 764 women and correlated to 5 pregnancy outcome groups: gestational hypertension (n = 76), pre-eclampsia (n = 33), in

Long-term pediatric outcomes after first-trimester exposure to low-dose warfarin plus enoxaparin versus enoxaparin alone in pregnancies with mechanical heart valves: the KYBELE children study.

BACKGROUND: Pregnant women with mechanical heart valves (MHVs) require continuous anticoagulation; however, first-trimester exposure to warfarin raises concerns regarding fetal safety. Data on long-term pediatric outcomes after low-dose warfarin exposure remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate long-term growth, neurodevelopmental, cardiac, and endocrine outcomes in children antenatally exposed to low-dose warfarin combined with enoxaparin, compared with enoxaparin alone. METHODS: This single-center observational cohort study reports long-term pediatric follow-up outcomes of 32 children b

[Outcome of fetuses with malformations discovered before 14 weeks. Where the discovery is revealed by echography during the first trimester, is it responsible for the voluntary termination of the pregnancy? Comparison before and after July 2001].

OBJECTIVES: The aims of this study were to review detection of fetal malformations during the first trimester and to study pregnancy and infant outcomes. We wanted to check if the lengthening of the legal delay for volontary termination of pregnancy changes the outcome of the pregnancy, in cases outside of the legal requirements. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was overseen by the french college of fetal echography (CFEF). All the cases of abnormality detected before 14 weeks' gestational age, excluding the isolated increased nuchal translucency, were extracted from the total population exa

Maternal age-specific rates of 47,+21 and other cytogenetic abnormalities diagnosed in the first trimester of pregnancy in chorionic villus biopsy specimens: comparison with rates expected from observations at amniocentesis.

Results are presented on chromosome analyses made on 4,481 embryos or fetuses studied through chorionic villus sampling (CVS) in whom there was no known bias to presence of a chromosome abnormality except advanced parental age. We excluded from the analysis most cases in which mosaicism was diagnosed or in which there were cytogenetic discrepancies among samples obtained from the conceptus. There remain 48 cases of 47,+21, 39 cases of other nonlethal abnormalities, and 12 lethal abnormalities diagnosed in 4,481 studied. A regression analysis (restricted to the 3,848 cases diagnosed in the 35-4

First trimester maternal vitamin D, ferritin, hemoglobin level and their associations with neonatal birthweight: Result from cohort study on vitamin D status and its impact during pregnancy and childhood in Indonesia.

INTRODUCTION: Vitamin D deficiency and anemia are examples of nutritional problems of global health significance. When these health issues effect pregnant women, they may become a threat to the fetus' potention for intrauterine growth. It has been known that the first trimester is the golden period of fetal programming which influences the fetuses and their life after birth. This study was aiming to analyze the association between first trimester maternal vitamin D, serum ferritin, hemoglobin level and neonatal birth weight. METHODS: From July 2016 a prospective cohort of pregnant women had b

Assessment of uteroplacental vascularisation in early first-trimester pregnancy with contrast-enhanced ultrasound and 3D power Doppler angiography: protocol for a prospective, cross-sectional, multicentre and non-randomised open study ("HOPE Study").

INTRODUCTION: Knowledge about the mechanisms leading to the establishment of uteroplacental vascularisation is inadequate, and some of what has been thought to be known for decades has recently been challenged by showing that the intervillous space, the major area of maternal-fetal exchange, appears to be perfused by maternal blood at as early as 6 weeks of gestation. The vascular flow then seems relatively constant until 13 weeks when it appears to increase suddenly. OBJECTIVES: The principal objective is to quantify the perfusion of the intervillous space by contrast-enhanced ultrasonograph
