METHODS: Forty-one consecutive patients with Crohn's disease who underwent long-term seton drainage for high transsphincteric, suprasphincte … urrence. At the end of follow-up, five patients (12 percent) required proctectomy mainly for severe proctitis, and five patients (12 percent) developed anal incontinence, which was severe in two.
CONCLUSION: Long-term seton drainage for high and fistula in Crohn's disease is efficacious in both treating sepsis and preserving anal sphincter function.

Utilising the population based data resources of the Rochester Epidemiology Project, we estimated survival and risk of subsequent colon cancer in the 182 residents of Rochester, Minnesota, initially diagnosed with chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC) between 1985 and 1979. OBJECTIVES: To develop and evaluate a real-time quadriplex PCR for the diagnosis of lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) and non-LGV chlamydial infections using rectal swab specimens.
METHODS: The design of the real-time quadriplex PCR assay incorporates an LGV-specific, a non-LGV-specific target sequence, a Chlamydia trachomatis plasmid target, and the human RNase P gene as an internal control. We performed endoluminal sonography in 23 patients with suspected inflammatory perianal or perirectal disease. Between 1971 and 1991, details of 67 women with perianal Crohn's disease were recorded prospectively using the Cardiff classification. Two groups were identified according to the presence (n = 29) or absence (n = 38) of anorectal Crohn's fistula involving the vagina. Patients in both groups were of a similar age and had had Crohn's disease for a similar period before diagnosis of perianal involvement. We analyzed the incidence of anal disease in patients with nonbacterial prostatitis (NBP) or with prostatitis-like syndrome (PLS), and evaluated the clinical efficacy. The complicated rate of anal disease in these patients was 29.7% (31.8% for NBP and 28.1% for PLS), and the overall incidence of active anal disease was 15.4% (16.2% for NBP and 14.8% for PLS), it yielded a significantly higher complicated rate than other urological disease (p less than 0.01). The most common type of anal disease was hemorrhoids, especially piles. The clinical cure rate for anal disease in NBP patients was 71.4%

A 3-year-old female Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is presented with tenesmus alvi caused by a 15 cm long chronic regional cicatrising eosinophilic coloproctitis with bacterial masses surrounded by clubs, resembling actinomycosis.
