OBJECTIVES: To gain insight into current methods and practices for the assessment of competences during rheumatology training, and to explore the underlying priorities and rationales for competence assessment.
METHODS: We used a qualitative approach through online focus groups (FGs) of rheumatology trainers and trainees, separately. The study included five countries-Denmark, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom. A summary of current practices of assessment of competences was developed, modified and validated by the FGs based on an independent response to a questionnaire. A

Health systems science (HSS) is increasingly recognized as a core component of contemporary medical education. Although early clinical exposure (ECE) has been shown to enhance students' understanding of clinical practice, evidence regarding its role in shaping HSS-related perspectives in Korean medicine (KM) education remains limited. This study explored how participation in an HSS-based ECE program influenced KM students' perceptions and learning experiences. Between 2023 and 2025, a qualitative study was conducted with 65 third-year students enrolled in a KM college. Following HSS-oriented l

We propose an AI-based tool to predict and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for player's activity such as running distance and speed from wearable devices. These KPIs serve as proxies for intensity and fatigue levels in professional athletes. Applied to a women's professional handball team competing at the EHF Champions League level, our model helps predict player workload and physiological stress, enabling accurate monitoring of player condition. By combining predictive accuracy with explainability methods, our tool not only forecasts fatigue and intensity metrics but also provides a

Gestational surrogacy, made possible with the introduction of in vitro fertilization, has expanded family building options while introducing novel challenges to established legal principles involving constitutional, contract, and family law as well as duty of care and negligence. Both legislatures and courts have grappled with how to apply these sometimes-competing areas of law to protect participants and professionals, and to create legally secure families. This article explores the following: the Constitutionally protected rights of privacy and reproductive autonomy of gestational surrogates

This paper focuses on community resiliency planning in high-density areas, concentrating on balancing critical infrastructure recovery needs with real-life limitations in funding, and knowledge for how emergency management is done. A case study examines how a New Jersey government agency and state university were able to pilot a community resiliency concept in order to rapidly inject emergency management knowledge into a community that was affected by Superstorm Sandy. The lessons learned are intuitively understood by emergency planning professionals: preparing continuity of operations plans,

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 heralded wide reaching reforms intended to place clinicians at the heart of the health service. For NHS general dental practice, the conduits for this clinical leadership are the NHS England local professional networks. In Greater Manchester, the local professional network has developed and piloted a clinician led quality improvement project: 'Healthy Gums DO Matter, a Practitioner's Toolkit'. Used as a case study, the project highlighted the following facilitators to clinical leadership in dentistry: supportive environment; mentoring and transformational le

Objective Despite increased research into how caring for a child diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) affects mothers, more needs to be known about ways in which such experiences transform their lives. Insight into the experiences of such mothers was sought through analysis of interviews with eight mothers and one father caring for a child with JIA. Design The study is situated within a larger project involving families with a child with JIA. A social constructionist approach was adopted and grounded theory including a 'negative case,' guided gathering and analysing data. Individ

BACKGROUND: Acting with integrity is a central part of nursing practice. However, literature shows that professional integrity can be absent and where this is present it can face challenges. Governmental Inquiries have revealed deficits in the expression of nursing values which underpin professional integrity, in particular caring, compassionate and competent practice that maintains the dignity of patients. Evidence also suggests that it cannot be taken for granted that pre-registration education will have a positive impact on student nurses' ability to practice with integrity.

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has pioneered using multidisciplinary teams to attend all aspects of a patient's illness with high levels of professionalism and quality, providing individualized treatment, and negotiating any changes in lifestyle and treatment course. Clinical management transfers the management capacity to professionals, thus avoiding any increase in costs and healthcare spending, which can result in quality losses and less social legitimacy. Modern CR has been configured as the most effective comprehensive cardiovascular prevention strategy and given its preventive nature it mus

BACKGROUND: Healthy Mothers Healthy Families (HMHF) is a women's health and empowerment programme designed to promote the health and well-being of mothers of children with a disability. An ongoing need to extend the reach of HMHF to more mothers, and increase scalability, resulted in development of a training programme based in principles of adult and transformative learning, to credential mothers as HMHF facilitators. The current study evaluated the process and outcomes of the competency training programme for new facilitators.

Empathy for patients is not only learned through reasoning, but also through sensitivity. Art, reflecting the human emotional dimension, has its place as an educational resource in the training of health professionals. Caregivers must be competent to collect the psychological pain associated with suicidal risk, which is a prerequisite for any preventive action. Since facilitating empathy also protects against burn-out, there is much to be gained by promoting educational programs of artistic observation.

Rural social workers often serve in complex, resource-limited environments that demand a broad range of competencies. This study explored how practitioners in Ohio assess their preparedness to apply essential generalist and advanced practice skills by identifying gaps between perceived importance and confidence, termed "practice needs." A statewide online survey of licensed social workers (N = 155) was conducted using disproportionate stratified sampling to ensure representation of rural practitioners. Respondents rated 20 core practice skills and provided demographic and work environment data

INTRODUCTION: Medical education must adapt to society's needs, ensuring that the skills acquired by students align with those perceived as necessary for high-quality medical practice. The aim of this study was to assess the perceptions of medical trainees who graduated from University of Coimbra's Faculty of Medicine between 2020/21 and 2022/23, currently working as foundation year or specialty trainee doctors, regarding competencies acquired during training. Secondarily, we aimed to evaluate differences across medical career stages.
METHODS: We applied an online questionnaire (5-point Likert

Research shows that nonoffending mothers are frequently held at fault for child sexual abuse (CSA), by both society and professionals, with contradictory explanations for the fault. For example, the same maternal characteristic can be used to assign blame or alleviate blame (i.e., single mothers have been held more at fault for their child's CSA and less at fault). The purpose of this study was to assess a theoretically based model that could account for these different reasons. We tested the stereotype content model (SCM), which examines the content of stereotypes toward target groups, by foc
