Nonlocal means image denoising using orthogonal moments.

An image denoising method in moment domain has been proposed. The denoising involves the development and evaluation based on the modified nonlocal means (NLM) algorithm. It uses the similarity of the neighborhood, evaluated using Krawtchouk moments. The results of the proposed denoising method have been validated using peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), a well-known quality measure such as structural similarity (SSIM) index and blind/referenceless image spatial quality evaluator (BRISQUE). The denoising algorithm has been evaluated for synthetic and real clinical images contaminated by Gaussia

Automated segmentation of the femur and pelvis from 3D CT data of diseased hip using hierarchical statistical shape model of joint structure.

Segmentation of the femur and pelvis from 3D data is prerequisite of patient specific planning and simulation for hip surgery. Separation of the femoral head and acetabulum is one of main difficulties in the diseased hip joint due to deformed shapes and extreme narrowness of the joint space. In this paper, we develop a hierarchical multi-object statistical shape model representing joint structure for automated segmentation of the diseased hip from 3D CT images. In order to represent shape variations as well as pose variations of the femur against the pelvis, both shape and pose variations are

Clinically integrated multi-modal transformer framework with cross-modal gated fusion and clinical nomogram for automated Kellgren-Lawrence grading of knee osteoarthritis on x-ray images.

BACKGROUND: We developed a multi-modal Transformer framework integrating knee radiographs with clinical covariates to enable automated, objective, and generalizable ordinal Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading. METHODS: A total of 2,703 anteroposterior knee radiographs were retrospectively collected from three independent medical centers (January 2018 - December 2024). Data from two centers (n = 1,953) were used for model development and internal five-fold stratified cross-validation, while the third center (n = 750) served as an independent external test set. The proposed framework combines a Swin

The evaluation of patellar height: a simple method.

BACKGROUND: Patellar height is evaluated with ratios that have been derived from measurements made on lateral radiographs of the knee. The importance of using a ratio is that magnification, physical size, and flexion angle are eliminated as factors that affect the values. The Insall-Salvati index was the first ratio to be described. It remains the most popular, possibly because normal values are easy to remember. As all of the currently accepted methods are cumbersome to use because they require two measurements as well as a calculation, a single angular measurement was devised (the plateau-pa

Enhancing YOLO5 for the Assessment of Irregular Pelvic Radiographs with Multimodal Information.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is one of the most common orthopedic disorders in infants and young children. Accurate identification and localization of anatomical landmarks are prerequisites for the diagnosis of DDH. In recent years, various works have employed deep learning algorithms on radiography images for DDH diagnosis. However, none of these works have considered the incorporation of multimodal information. The pelvis exhibits distinct structures at different developmental stages, and there are also gender-based differences. In light of this, this study proposes a method to e
