One hundred medical and surgical patients admitted to an accident and emergency ward were screened for psychiatric disorder. A psychiatric diagnosis was made in 37 patients, 32 of whom were correctly identified by the GHQ. Psychiatric morbidity was associated with being single, lower social class, unemployment, homelessness and living in Bloomsbury Health District or north-east London. It was also associated with not being registered with a GP. The 14 overdose patients were no more likely to receive a psychiatric diagnosis than other patients, yet constituted most of the psychiatric referrals.

The psychological well-being of forty-four breast cancer patients was assessed shortly before and after surgery, and at three and twelve months post-operatively. Regression analysis revealed type of treatment, control over treatment and concern for appearance as significant predictors of nature of subsequent mood state. Results are discussed with reference to the theoretical position that type of severe life event can predict the nature of ensuing psychological disorder.

This paper reviews the different ways currently available for screening sleeping sickness. These ways are then integrated and discussed by the author in proposing different strategic and methodologic solutions after emphasizing the role of each of the technical stages. Altogether, there isn't one standard solution but adaptations around a main plan, according to contexts and having regard to efficiency and profitability. Brucellosis is one of the most common zoonotic diseases worldwide. Although deer are reportedly infected by Brucella spp., deer-associated brucellosis cases have been rare.
