Familial Blau syndrome:First molecularly confirmed report from India.

Blau syndrome (BS) is a rare autoinflammatory disorder characterized by the clinical triad of arthritis, uveitis, and dermatitis due to heterozygous gain-of-function mutations in the NOD2 gene. BS can mimic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)-associated uveitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ocular tuberculosis. We report a family comprising a mother and her two children, all presenting with uveitis and arthritis. A NOD2 mutation was confirmed in all the three patients - the first such molecularly proven case report of familial BS from India.

Immune keratitis: An unusual primary presentation of neuro-Behçet's disease.

A 19-year-old Nepalese male presented with complaints of bilateral ocular discomfort, photophobia, watering, and redness for 1 week. Visual acuity was 6/12 and 6/60 in the right and left eye, respectively. On biomicroscopic examination, presence of peripheral stromal infiltrates with conjunctival follicles was noted; infiltrates progressed to involve central cornea with further decrease in vision over next few days. After ruling out infectious keratitis, detailed systemic examination and laboratory investigations were diagnostic of neuro-Behçet's disease. Patient responded to systemic steroida

Preservation of the Corneal Epithelium in Different Corneal Storage Media.

PURPOSE: With increasing time, epithelial defects (EDs) develop in virtually all corneas stored in corneal storage media. Optisol GS and Life 4°C are commonly available intermediate storage media used for corneal storage before keratoplasty. Epithelial preservation capabilities of Life 4°C and Optisol GS are compared in this study. METHODS: Nine pairs of human corneas were harvested, and 1 cornea of each pair was stored in Optisol GS and the other was stored in Life 4°C. The size and frequency of EDs of corneas stored in Optisol GS and Life 4°C were measured over time within the chambers usin

"Fly in the eye: Oestrus ovis" - a case report and a review from India.

Ophthalmomyiasis externa is the most common manifestation of Oestrus ovis (sheep nasal botfly) in humans. Several cases have been reported from various regions of India with the first case reported by Elliot in 1910. Here, we report such a case from North India along with the review of literature from India of the last fifteen years. A farmer presented to us with unilateral ocular symptoms of redness, foreign body sensation and severe watering in left eye who was misdiagnosed as acute conjunctivitis elsewhere. On slit lamp examination, multiple translucent larvae were found in his conjunctival…

[Research progress on imagine diagnosis of limbal stem cell deficiency].

Limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) is an ocular surface disease resulting from a reduction and/or dysfunction of limbal stem cells. The symptoms of LSCD are non-specific and can be difficult to distinguish from other ocular surface diseases through slit-lamp examination. Impression cytology is currently considered the gold standard for LSCD diagnosis; however,it is a qualitative method with low sensitivity. Nonetheless, emerging imaging techniques offer quantitative diagnosis and staging of LSCD. This review article examines four imaging methods and their associated parameters for diagnosing LS

Sight-threatening progressive corneo-scleral involvement in porphyria cutanea tarda.

Porphyria cutanea tarda is the most common type of porphyria. It is associated with a deficiency of uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase enzyme responsible for heme synthesis. Clinical manifestations are predominantly dermatological and very rarely present with ocular involvement. Although scleral thinning in the interpalpebral area is a well-documented entity, sight-threatening corneal involvement is rarely described. We, herein report a case of a 58-year-old man who presented with ocular surface dryness, photophobia and mild redness. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy revealed corneo-scleral thinning in both
