Secondary traumatization in first responders: a systematic review.

Background: Finding precise definitions of secondary traumatic stress, vicarious traumatization, and compassion fatigue is not easy. While some researchers define these terms differentially, others use them interchangeably. In the present review, we refer to all three phenomena as secondary traumatization. Objectives: This systematic review aims to provide an overview of prevalence rates of secondary traumatization in first responders and to shed light on corresponding resilience and risk factors. Methods: After identifying 219 studies within the searched databases and 2192 references via hand

Knowledge of Cervical Cancer Among Women of Childbearing Age: A Qualitative Study of a Local Council in South-Eastern Nigeria.

The study investigated the knowledge of cervical cancer among women of childbearing age in a local council of a southeastern Nigerian state, aiming at improving attitudes toward screening uptake and early detection. The health belief model served as a guide for the study's qualitative exploratory research design. Using a combination of purposive and availability sampling strategies, a sample of 20 women participants with varying ages (23-36 years) were selected from 10 villages. The findings revealed that participants have limited knowledge of cervical cancer, with misconceptions and cultural

The revival of spiritual practices: factors influencing the "seeking deities and offering prayers" behavior of China's Generation Z on social media in an atheistic context.

INTRODUCTION: Over the past decade, there has been a growing focus on the study of how religion and technology intersect, particularly within the field of digital religion studies. In recent years, digital religious activities have emerged on Chinese social media platforms, with the sharing and promotion of content related to religious activities becoming increasingly popular. In a country like China, which adheres to atheistic ideology, the emergence of religious activities among the Generation Z youth provides a unique case for academic research. However, there is very limited research on di

Not an 'iron pipeline', but many capillaries: regulating passive transactions in Los Angeles' secondary, illegal gun market.

OBJECTIVES: California has strict firearm-related laws and is exceptional in its regulation of firearms retailers. Though evidence suggests that these laws can reduce illegal access to guns, high levels of gun violence persist in Los Angeles (LA), California. This research seeks to describe the sources of guns accessed by active offenders in LA, California and reports offenders' motivations for obtaining guns. SETTING: Los Angeles County Jail (LACJ) system (four facilities). METHODS: Random sampling from a screened pool of eligible participants was used to conduct qualitative semistructured

Acceptance and commitment therapy for moral injury: conceptualizing and intervening on moral injury through the lens of contextual behavioral science.

Moral injury is at a critical juncture in its conceptualization. Current dominant approaches to conceptualizing and assessing moral injury are rooted in syndromal frameworks with implicit medical model assumptions. In these approaches, painful moral emotions and cognitions are often conceptualized as pathological symptoms to be reduced or corrected. Such approaches risk pathologizing deeply human moral responses and may inadvertently position clinicians as arbiters of which moral appraisals or emotional reactions are appropriate, proportionate, or adaptive. In this paper, we present Contextual

Structural validity and reliability of the patient experience measure: A new approach to assessing psychosocial experience of upper limb prosthesis users.

Recent advances in upper limb prosthetics include sensory restoration techniques and osseointegration technology that introduce additional risks, higher costs, and longer periods of rehabilitation. To inform regulatory and clinical decision making, validated patient reported outcome measures are required to understand the relative benefits of these interventions. The Patient Experience Measure (PEM) was developed to quantify psychosocial outcomes for research studies on sensory-enabled upper limb prostheses. While the PEM was responsive to changes in prosthesis experience in prior studies, its

Social rank and personality are associated with visit frequency in dairy cows learning to use an automatic milking system.

Automatic milking systems (AMSs) require cows to perform relatively complicated behaviours: visiting the milking robot voluntarily at appropriate intervals and at a high enough frequency to maintain production. Failure to correctly learn this behaviour can lead to prolonged training for the affected cows, which in turn can result in increased labour, reduced milk yields, and reduced animal welfare. There is currently considerable individual variation between cows in the number of voluntary milking visits achieved per day which may be due to variation in learning ability, amongst other factors.

Developing a Taijiquan exercise pattern for Chinese older adults: a qualitative study based on the exercise commitment model.

BACKGROUND: Taijiquan is widely practiced by older adults and has been associated with benefits for physical health, psychological wellbeing, balance, cognition, and quality of life. However, the long-term maintenance of Taijiquan exercise remains a challenge, and some older adults discontinue participation during the early stages of practice. Exercise commitment provides a useful psychological framework for understanding continued participation in exercise. However, few studies have systematically developed an intervention framework for strengthening Taijiquan exercise commitment among older

Validation of the immersion in digital life and quality of digital experience scales in German, French, Spanish, Polish and Czech.

The Quality of Digital Experience Scale (QDES) and the Immersion in Digital Life Scale (IDLS) were developed to measure positive and negative experiences of digital technology use and the extent to which different facets of life were digital. Critically, the QDES and ILDS were developed to be independent of digital device or platform, thus providing a more holistic account of digital technology use than previous measures. The objective of the current studies was to validate the QDES and IDLS in German, French, Czech, Polish and Spanish. Across the studies, data from a total of 4,447 participan

Measurement in Correctional Health Research: Unique Challenges and Strategies for Enhanced Rigor.

It is essential to identify valid and reliable measurement strategies to enhance accurate, comprehensive, and meaningful health assessment and evaluation to improve health outcomes among justice-involved and incarcerated populations. This article identifies and describes three primary challenges related to measurement in correctional health care and makes four recommendations for enhanced measurement rigor from a social justice perspective. First, incorporate incarcerated persons into the measurement research process; second, enhance psychometric investigation in correctional health settings;

Individual differences in vigor and deliberation: development of two new measures from an evolutionary psychology theory of human motivation.

Three studies (total N=403 participants; M age = 31.1 yr.; SD = 13.8) are reported on the development, psychometric properties, and convergent and discriminant validities of two individual differences dimensions of Vigor (constructive arousal and energy that drives the general intensity of behavior) and Deliberation (prudence in the delay of immediate action and consideration of competing motives, emotions, and consequences of action that promote convergence of behavior toward socially desirable outcomes). These dimensions are part of Bernard, Mills, Swenson, and Walsh's evolutionary psycholog

Psychometric validation of the Romanian Scenario-Based Dieting Self-Efficacy Scale in adults with overweight and obesity.

INTRODUCTION: Overweight and obesity require sustained changes in eating behaviour, yet long-term adherence to dietary recommendations remains difficult. Dieting self-efficacy, defined as confidence in managing eating-related challenges, is an important self-regulatory construct in weight management. This study aimed to translate and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Romanian version of the Scenario-Based Dieting Self-Efficacy Scale (DIET-SE) in adults with overweight and obesity. METHODS: A total of 509 adults from the general Romanian population completed an online survey between

How teacher support and practical environment relate to engagement in project-based learning: the mediating roles of self-efficacy and autonomous motivation.

BACKGROUND: Project-based learning (PBL) has been widely adopted in higher education, including Chinese universities, to promote active, interdisciplinary, and applied learning. Yet sustaining deep student engagement in demanding project environments remains a challenge, and existing research has largely examined instructional, environmental, and individual factors in isolation rather than within an integrated framework. Drawing on self-determination theory and social cognitive theory, this study distinguished two forms of contextual support, namely teacher behavior and support (TBS) and pract

The Feasibility, Tolerability, and Safety of Administering a Very High Alcohol Dose to Drinkers with Alcohol Use Disorder.

INTRODUCTION: There remains a paucity of research quantifying alcohol's effects in drinkers with alcohol use disorder (AUD), particularly responses to very high alcohol doses (≥0.8 g/kg). As drinkers with AUD frequently engage in very heavy drinking (8 to 10 drinks/occasion), doses of ≤0.8 g/kg may lack ecological validity. The present study examined the feasibility, tolerability, and safety of administering a very high alcohol dose (1.2 g/kg) to non-treatment-seeking AUD participants. METHODS: Sixty-one young adult AUD drinkers enrolled in the Chicago Social Drinking Project and completed 3
