The reaction kinetics of a set of ruthenium nitrosyl complexes, {(X)5MNO}n, containing different coligands X (polypyridines, NH3, EDTA, pz, and py) with cysteine (excess conditions), were studied by UV-vis spectrophotometry, using stopped-flow techniques, at an appropriate pH, in the range 3-10, and T = 25 degrees C. Kinetics of hydrolysis of S-methyl-2-thiophenobarbital in aqueous solutions was investigated using the UV spectroscopic method within the pH range 1.5-12.9 at 60 degrees C. Chromatography was used to separate and isolate the products of hydrolysis of this compound and its N-methyl isomer. The products were identified by spectroscopic methods and the course of hydrolysis of both isomers were compared.

Kinetics of hydrolysis of N,N- and N,S-dimethyl-2-thiophenobarbital and products of this reaction were investigated. The UV spectroscopy served as a tool for kinetic investigations and chromatography was used to separate and isolate the main products of hydrolysis. These products were identified by spectroscopic methods and the course of hydrolysis of both isomers was compared.

Modern extraction techniques, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) were used for isolation of four corticosteroids from biological matrices. Investigation of the 15N NMR of S-nitrosothiols showed that primary and tertiary RSNOs have distinct 15N chemical shifts around 730 and 790 ppm, respectively. Using 15N NMR technique, the equilibrium constant of NO transfer between SNAP and GSH was found to be 0.74. For primary RSNOs, linear relationships exist among 15N NMR chemical shifts, reduction potentials, and the pK(a)s of their parent thiols.

In a study of adaptations to sulfide by alvinellid polychaetes, the sulfide-binding capacity of body fluids was examined in Paralvinella palmiformis from northeast Pacific ridges and Alvinella species from the East Pacific Rise.
