Comparison of NaI(T1), CdTe, and HgI2 surgical probes: effect of scatter compensation on probe performance.

Spatial variation in the background source distribution makes tumor detection difficult for single-detector probes. Using a single energy window that brackets the photopeak helps discriminate against background events dominated by Compton scattering. Another approach is to use the information provided by an additional window in the Compton region. The performances of NaI(T1), CdTe, and HgI2 surgical probes have been compared under realistic simulations of a tumor-staging procedure using optimal single-sided energy windows and a two-window scatter-subtraction technique. Results showed that desp

CdTe-detector registration of 99mTc-DTPA clearance. An assessment of kidney function without blood sampling.

Since the most essential function of the kidneys is to regulate the composition and volume of the extracellular fluids the ratio of the extracellular volume (ECV) to the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) seems to be a relevant index of kidney function. This ratio is equal to the mean transit time (t) of an injected ECV-distributed tracer that is exclusively eliminated from the body by glomerular filtration. In 26 patients t was estimated by means of standard methods after an intravenous injection of 99mTc-DTPA and was found to be correlated (r = 0.98) to the reciprocal final slope of the time-a

Obese patient imaging: Potential dose reduction with photon-counting CT.

BACKGROUND: Photon-counting CT (PCCT) offers key advantages over energy integrating detector CT (EID-CT), especially in low-dose scans and imaging larger patients. As obesity rates rise, minimizing image noise is critical for diagnostic accuracy. PURPOSE: To evaluate the dose efficiency of cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) based PCCT compared to EID-CT across phantom sizes. METHODS: A patient-specific 3D-printed pancreas phantom and a phantom with tissue mimicking inserts were placed in extension rings corresponding to the 50th, 75th, 85th, and 95th percentile adult waist circumferences. Phantoms

Cadmium telluride quantum dot-MXene composite-based electrochemical sensing platform for simultaneous determination of rutin and quercetin in foods.

A simple and rapid electrochemical method based on a composite of cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) and MXene is developed for the simultaneous determination of rutin and quercetin in food samples. The CdTe QD-MXene composite is synthesized via the in situ growth of CdTe QDs on MXene, which serves as a carrier and enhances electrical conductivity. Incorporating CdTe QDs into MXene interlayers effectively prevents agglomeration in MXene and provides more active sites for electrochemical determination. The developed electrochemical method can successfully determine rutin and quercetin, b

A novel framework-targeted affinity-based sandwich photoelectrochemical sensor for trace acrylamide determination.

Acrylamide (AAm), a carcinogenic by-product formed during food processing, presents significant health concerns. Here, we developed an innovative photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor for ultra-sensitive AAm detection, based on a framework-targeted affinity strategy. Utilizing a metal-coordinated porphyrin-based covalent organic framework (TT-Por(Co)-COF) as the capture layer, the sensor leverages thiophene units to enhance charge transport and selectively adsorb AAm. Independent Gradient Model (IGMH) analysis confirmed two weak interaction regions, predominantly hydrogen bonding and van der Waals

Boronic acid functionalized quantum dots/AuNPs and metal enhanced fluorescence for selective glucose detection.

The development of effective glucose monitoring methods is essential for diabetic patients, enabling them to better manage their blood glucose levels and prevent severe complications such as myocardial infarction and renal failure. In this study, we successfully constructed a fluorescent probe based on aminobenzeneboronic acid functionalized CdTe quantum dots (QDs-APBA) and mercaptophenylboronic acid modified gold nanoparticles (MPBA-AuNPs). The fluorescence intensity of QDs-APBA was influenced by the metal enhanced fluorescence (MEF) effect from MPBA-AuNPs, achieving a 2.6-fold enhancement. T

Human serum albumin directed formation of cadmium telluride quantum dots: Applications in biosensing, anti-bacterial activities and cell cytotoxicity measurements.

Although cadmium-based quantum dots (QDs) are highly promising candidates for numerous biological applications, their intrinsic toxicity limits their pertinency in living systems. Surface functionalization of QDs with appropriate molecules could reduce the toxicity level. Herein, we have synthesized the smaller sized (1-5 nm) aqueous-compatible biogenic CdTe QDs using human serum albumin (HSA) as a surface passivating agent via a greener approach. HSA-functionalized CdTe QDs have been explored in multiple in vitro sensing and biological applications, namely, (1) sensing, (2) anti-bacterial and

Highly sensitive electrochemical biosensor for MUC1 detection based on DNA-functionalized CdTe quantum dots as signal enhancers.

In this paper, an electrochemical biosensor based on a cadmium telluride/polypyrrole (CdTe/PPy) nanocomposite was developed for the detection of MUC1 with high selectivity and sensitivity. Results indicate that the CdTe/PPy nanocomposite is modified on the surface of the glassy carbon electrode (GCE), which affords a large surface area for immobilizing cap-DNA, ensuring its high selectivity and sensitivity. Next, CdTe-linked sig-DNA (MUC1 aptamer) was introduced, allowing the MUC1 aptamer to hybridize with cap-DNA. CdTe is a signal amplification element used to generate a differential pulse vo

Nucleic Acid and Nanomaterial Synergistic Amplification Enables Dual Targets of Ultrasensitive Fluorescence Quantification to Improve the Efficacy of Clinical Tuberculosis Diagnosis.

Interferon-γ (IFN-γ) release assays (IGRAs) are constrained by the limited diagnostic performance of a single indicator and the excessive Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) antigen stimulation time. This study presents a simultaneous, homogeneous, rapid, and ultrasensitive fluorescence quantification strategy for IFN-γ and IFN-γ-induced protein 10 (IP-10). This method relies on the high-affinity binding of aptamers to IFN-γ and IP-10, the enzyme-free catalytic hairpin assembly reaction, and the heightened sensitivity of CdTe quantum dots to Ag+ and hairpin structure C-Ag+-C and carbon dots to Hg

A "bottle-around-ship" method to encapsulated carbon nitride and CdTe quantum dots in ZIF-8 as the dual emission fluorescent probe for detection of mercury (II) ion.

A facile and efficient "bottle-around-ship" approach for preparing the ratiometric fluorescent probe has been developed by encapsulating the red-colored fluorescence CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and blue-colored fluorescence graphitic carbon nitride quantum dots (g-CNQDs) into the zeolitic imidazolate metal-organic frameworks (ZIF-8) in one step. At a single excitation of 360 nm, the obtained probe ZIF-8@g-CNQD/CdTe shows the dual-emission peaked at 450 and 633 nm, respectively. The red emission of CdTe QDs is selectively quenched by the Hg2+, whereas the blue fluorescence of g-CNQDs as an internal

Thermodynamic and kinetic insights into the interactions between functionalized CdTe quantum dots and human serum albumin: A surface plasmon resonance approach.

To explore in vivo application of quantum dots (QDs), it is essential to understand the dynamics and energetics of interactions between QDs and proteins. Here, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and molecular docking were employed to investigate the kinetics and thermodynamics of interactions between human serum albumin (HSA) and CdTe QDs (~3 nm) functionalized with mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) or thioglycolic acid (TGA). Kinetic analysis showed that HSA-QD interactions involved transition-complex formation. Despite the structural similarities between MPA and TGA, the [HSA-CdTe@TGA]‡ formation by

Bioaccessibility as a determining factor in the bioavailability and toxicokinetics of cadmium compounds.

Cadmium toxicity occurs where there is absorption and accumulation of cadmium ions (Cd2+) in tissues beyond tolerable levels. Significant differences in the release of Cd2+ from cadmium compounds in biological fluids, like gastric fluid, may indicate differences in bioavailability and absorption. This means that direct read-across from high solubility cadmium compounds to lower solubility compounds may not accurately reflect potential hazards. Here, the relative bioaccessibility in gastric fluid of cadmium telluride and cadmium chloride was evaluated using in vitro bioelution tests whilst the

A sensitive fluorescent sensor based on the photoinduced electron transfer mechanism for cefixime and ctDNA.

Cefixime is a third generation orally administered cephalosporin that is frequently used as a broad spectrum antibiotic against various gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. In this study, a simple and sensitive fluorescent sensor for the determination of the cefixime and ctDNA was established based on the CdTe:Zn2+ quantum dots (QDs). The fluorescence of CdTe:Zn2+ QDs can be effectively quenched by cefixime in virtue of the surface binding of cefixime on CdTe:Zn2+ QDs and the subsequent photoinduced electron transfer process from CdTe:Zn2+ QDs to cefixime, in particular, the high sensitiv

Rapid and simple detection of ascorbic acid and alkaline phosphatase via controlled generation of silver nanoparticles and selective recognition.

Ascorbic acid (AA) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) serve as an important coenzyme and enzyme in multiple biological metabolism reactions, respectively, and abnormal levels of these substrates have been associated with several diseases. Herein, a new and simple fluorescence strategy has been developed for AA and ALP sensing by exploiting CdTe quantum dots (QDs) as an effective signal indicator. This method is mainly based on the selective fluorescence-quenching reaction between Ag+ and CdTe QDs, as opposed to silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs); Ag+ can be reduced to Ag NPs by AA. Furthermore, by taki

Deposition of CdTe quantum dots on microfluidic paper chips for rapid fluorescence detection of pesticide 2,4-D.

Rapid detection of pesticides in fruits is an ongoing challenge. The objective of the present study was to develop novel fluorescent microfluidic paper chips for specific recognition and sensitive detection of the pesticide 2,4-D through the electron-transfer-induced fluorescence quenching mechanism. CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were deposited onto cellulose paper (base material) to yield imprinted paper chips (paper@QDs@MIPs). This method allows the transferability of the molecularly imprinted fluorescence sensor from the liquid phase to the solid phase (paper base) for rapid and portable analysis
