Of 507 breast scintimammograms performed using Tc-99m sestamibi, 34 patients were incidentally found to have abnormal appearing thyroid glands. The authors sought to investigate the clinical significance and/or ascertain an extraneous causative factor for these findings. We studies a relationship between the serum levels of thrombomodulin(TM) and the thyroid functions. CLINICAL CASE: We present a case of a 40-years-old woman with an acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE) associated with recent instauration hyperthyroidism symptoms. A Graves' disease was diagnosed and the patient was initially controlled with antithyroid drugs. The epitheliopathy evolution was relatively favourable without relapse. OBJECTIVES: Widespread amyloid deposition in the thyroid gland causes diffuse, clinically apparent enlargement of the thyroid (amyloid goitre: AG). The aim of this study was to clarify the abnormalities of thyroid function in patients with AG.
DESIGN: Thirty patients with secondary amyloidosis were retrospectively analysed.
