A sensitive new method to assay bleomycin (BLM) metabolism was developed using an ion-paired, reverse-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography technique in conjunction with fluorescence detection that allowed levels of BLM less than 20 ng/ml to be detected. The metabolism of bleomycin B2 in homogenates from benign and malignant human tumors was studied, and all 14 tumors were capable of metabolizing bleomycin to desamidobleomycin B2. BACKGROUND: While observed on the vulva, basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BC) of the vagina is extremely rare, with no reported cases.
CASE: A 54-year-old, African American woman presented with carcinoma metastatic to both lungs, morphologically similar to her BC of the vagina four years previously. She was treated initially in 1995 with local excision. Reexcision and radiation therapy were given for a recurrence in 1996.
CONCLUSION: BC of the vagina is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor, which can recur and metastasize.

Adenocarcinoma of the kidney may metastasize to many organs and remain undetected for years. We present three illustrative cases of patients who had solitary recurrences in unusual locations; two of the three presented more than eight years after having undergone nephrectomy. Recognition of these unusual presentations is important in proper patient management.

Multiple primary tumors have been detected in 192 (5.0%) cases out of 3,812 patients with primary cervical malignancies, 100 (2.6%) cases having been traced to radiation-related origin. The peculiarities of the syndrome of radiation-induced multiple tumors of the rectum, vagina and corpus uteri, duration of their development, histological patterns, degree of cell differentiation, depth of invasion and patterns of metastasis spreading have been identified. Relative cumulative risk of secondary tumor development and causal factors have been established.

PURPOSE: Abdominal reservoirs with a continent stoma were constructed.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Different types of artificial valves were fashioned. Our original modification for construction of the Kock pouch is described. The main principle of our suggested version is the embedded and plicated valve, foregoing the antireflux afferent loop, with direct ureteral implantation into the reservoir.
RESULTS: Of 69 patients 7 died in the postoperative period. Continence was achieved in 58 of the remaining 62 patients (93.5%). All 7 patients with the embedded valve were continent.

Nonsmall cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (NSCNEC) of the ovary is a rare and aggressive tumor commonly associated with other surface epithelial and germ cell neoplasms. In this study, we present the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical features of 11 such cases seen at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in a 16-year period (1990 to 2005). A retrospective study was done on 575 patients with atypical Papanicolaou smears obtained during a ten-year period (1974-83) at Bellevue Hospital-New York University Medical Center. The smears were classified into three categories.
