We explored the feasibility of studying nuclear matrix protein (NMP) expressions of the hepatocytes in normal and cirrhotic rat livers with liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy. This report describes the surgical therapy, clinical course and morphological characteristics of an adenomatoid odontogenic tumor that developed in the maxilla of a 16-year-old patient. The cystic tumor filled the maxillary sinus and was removed with the retained tooth. Healing was uneventful and no local recurrence was observed during a two-year period of follow-up control. The tumor showed immunoreactivity for certain types of cytokeratins, vimentin and p63, and was focally immunoreactive for alpha smooth muscle actin and epithelial membrane antigen.

We report a case of chordoma containing a spindle cell sarcomatoid component with a gradual transition from conventional chordoma. Immunohistochemically, many tumor cells in both conventional chordoma and sarcomatoid components were positive for cytokeratins (AE1/AE3, CAM5.2) and epithelial membrane antigen as well as vimentin. This report provides a rare example of sarcomatoid chordoma. Familiarity with this type of bone tumor should help to avoid confusion with dedifferentiated chordoma and other spindle cell sarcomas or carcinomas.

A tumour occupying the fourth ventricle in a 3-year-old cat was removed surgically and characterized as a tanycytic ependymoma on the basis of histological features of low cellularity, inconspicuous perivascular pseudorosettes and fascicular architecture. Immunohistochemical analysis of sections revealed that the neoplastic cells were immunoreactive for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), vimentin and S-100. The histological and immunohistochemical findings were similar to those of human tanycytic ependymoma, a subclassification of ependymoma not previously described in domestic species.

An adrenal carcinosarcoma is reported in a 79-year-old woman presenting with clinical signs of hyperaldosteronism. The tumor weighed 199 g and consisted of areas typical of adrenal carcinoma and areas of sarcoma. The sarcomatous component of the tumor showed osteogenic and chondroid differentiation. Vimentin stained both the carcinomatous and sarcomatous regions. Four months after resection, the patient developed metastases. This is the third reported case of adrenal carcinosarcoma and the only case in which hyperaldosteronism or bony differentiation was observed.

A 1.5-year-old Holstein heifer had a subcutaneous tumor mass (20 cm diameter) on the ventral portion of the neck, and the tumor was diagnosed as a locally invasive myofibroblastoma. It consisted of moderately cellular fibrous tissue, and the interlobular septum of the thymus was invaded by tumor cells. The neoplastic cells were positive for alpha smooth muscle actin and vimentin, but not for desmin. Electron microscopy disclosed the presence of moderately developed rough endoplasmic reticulum and microfilaments with focal densities.
