Leptospirosis. Leptospirosis is the first worldwide anthropozoonosis with an incidence of 1 000 000 cases per year. It is more frequently encountered in tropical areas but also can be diagnosed in tempered places. In France, the most exposed people are athletes in fresh water (canoeing, rafting, caving...) and agricultural workers. The peak incidence occurs in late summer. After transcutaneous or mucosal penetration, Leptospira can cause direct tissue injury by invasion, or indirect injury by toxinic and/or immunological mechanism. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the surgical techniques of the modified presigmoid trans-partial bony labyrinth approach and the advantages in the exposure of the petroclival region and in the treatment of lesions in this area.
METHODS: Between April and October of 2012, a study on modification of the surgical approach was performed on 15 cadaveric heads. Two archaeological assemblages from the Sierra de Atapuerca sites show evidence of anthropogenic cannibalism. These are the late Early Pleistocene level TD6-2 at Gran Dolina, and the Bronze Age level MIR4 in the Mirador Cave. OBJECTIVE: Meckel's Cave may be accessed percutaneously through the foramen ovale (FO). Detailed knowledge of the region's anatomical surroundings is invaluable in improving target accuracy and preventing complications with this approach. OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: Intraprocedural three-dimensional (3D) axial tomography reconstructions have improved aneurysm detection, pedicle screw placement and more, resulting in less morbidity and improved outcomes. Currently, relative to balloon compression for trigeminal neuralgia, we are dependent upon lateral 2-dimensional imaging for the classic 'pear shape' imaging to determine correct positioning.

BACKGROUND: The retrospective analysis was performed to investigate the role of stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) techniques for patients with intracranial perineural spread (PNS) of a primary cutaneous malignancy.
METHODS: Five patients were identified who received SRT from 1993 to 2003 for cutaneous malignancies with intracranial PNS to the cavernous sinus (n = 3) or Meckel's cave (n = 2).
