The title compound, [Cr(2)Cl(2)O(C(18)H(18)N(4))(2)](PF(6))(2), is isostructural with the V(III) analogue. Each Cr(III) atom is chelated by the tetra-dentate tris-(2-pyridylmeth-yl)amine ligand via four N atoms, and further coordinated by one Cl atom and one bridging O atom, giving a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The dinuclear complex is centrosymmetric, with the bridging O atom lying on a centre of inversion.

Epidemiological studies have shown lower levels of chromium among men with diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared with healthy control subjects. Chromium picolinate (CrPic) is a popular dietary supplement, marketed to the public for weight loss, bodybuilding, and control of blood sugar. High frequency ESR measurements on the chromium spinel compound CdCr2O4 have been performed. The observed ESR modes below Hc' approximately 5.7 T can be explained well by the calculated resonance modes based on a molecular field theory assuming a helical spin structure. Other than the fundamental ones, we have succeeded in observing the higher-harmonic modes for the first time. A large change of the ESR modes above Hc' indicate that a variation of the spin structure from the helical to the four-sublattice canted one takes place around Hc'.

H5IO6 in the presence of catalytic chromoyl diacetate is a powerful method for oxidation of C-H bonds. Tertiary and oxygen activated C-H bonds are oxidized to tertiary alcohols or ketones at temperatures as low as -40 degrees C. The putative reagent is neutral dioxoperoxy chromium[VI] which undergoes C-H oxidation with retention of stereochemistry. This reagent appears to be the first reagent capable of oxidation of a C-H bond in the presence of an olefin without concomitant epoxidation.

XANES fitting indicates that non-Cr2O3 form of Cr(III), transformed from CrO3 by four-hour heat application at 1100 degrees C, is the key species sorbed onto or lattice-diffused into kaolin matrices that exhibits strong leaching resistance to sequential extraction using various combined solutions including HNO3, H2O2, and HF. The EXAFS spectra are all in agreement with the XANES results. The aerobic reaction of Cr(CO)6 with tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrole (H3(TpFPC)) in toluene gives the dark red oxochromium(V) compound (TpFPC)Cr(O), which has been characterized by X-ray crystallography, electrochemistry, and EPR spectroscopy. Short Cr-N (1.927-1.943 A) bonds as well as relatively large 14N and small 53Cr coupling constants suggest that sigma (N-->Cr) donation is responsible for the unusual stability of chromium(V) in this complex. The CrV/IV reduction potential (0.11 V vs Ag/AgCl) is 0.65 V below that of oxo(tetramesitylporphinato)chromium(V).

Abstract DNA-protein crosslinks were measured in peripheral blood lymphocytes of chrome-platers and controls from Bulgaria in order to evaluate a genotoxic effect of human exposure to carcinogenic Cr(VI) compounds.
