We herein report a rare case of a patient who developed a spindle cell tumor at the inferior mesenteric artery clipping site. A 58-year-old man underwent laparoscopy-assisted sigmoid colectomy for sigmoid colon cancer. As follow-up, CT scans were performed every 6 months after the primary surgery. We report 7 cases of sigmoid colon infection in patients taking TNFα antagonist therapy to treat chronic inflammatory joint disease. There were 5 women and 2 men with a mean age of 57.5 years (range, 21-77 years). The presenting symptoms were abdominal pain, bowel habit changes, and a fever. We report on a patient admitted for work up of prostatic carcinoma in which CT study showed an excavated mass involving the sigmoid colon and the bladder dome. Barium enema showed a double track pattern associated with diverticular disease. By surgery the mass was separated from the urinary bladder and the sigmoid resected. On pathological exam diverticulitis was evident as well as an organised colocolic fistula in the thickened fibrotic subserosal fat.The usefulness of opacifying the colon is highlighted.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study is to introduce a modified Soave procedure for the treatment of vascular malformations involving the anorectum and sigmoid colon (VMARS) in children.
METHODS: Cases of 12 children with VMARS between 2000 and 2008 were reviewed and analyzed. Pneumatosis coli it is usually benign disease, etiology is still obscure. It can be asymptomatic. Surgery is indicated if are potential complications. Pneumatosis coli characterized by multiple gas-filled cysts present in the submucosa and subserosa. The size of cysta varies between 0.5 and 3 cm. Cysts can occur anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract, but most common are in the small bowel. They occur more frequently in the left than in the right colon. We show a rare case of pneumatosis coli which was compicated of necrosis sigmoid, perforation and diffuse peritonitis.

OBJECTIVES: to determine whether sigmoid-pHi diagnose colon ischaemia after aortoiliac surgery?
DESIGN: single-centre, non-randomised, prospective study.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: of 83 patients operated on between 1994 and 1998, 41 with risk factors for the development of colon ischaemia were monitored peri- and/or postoperatively with sigmoid-pHi. Peri-operative mortality was 26% (8/31) after operation for a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), nil after operation for non-ruptured AAA. Thirty-five postoperative colonoscopies were performed. All non-survivors were examined post-mortem.
